1 /5 J. Lovett: I have preventative health insurance with anthem, which covers regular physicals and pelvic exams. First you have to be "accepted" as a patient, which takes about 3 weeks. Then they bait and switch your doctor with a resident fresh out of med school, which youll wait at least 90 minutes to see. Theyll charge you a "new patient" fee for your first appointment, which is pretty much a regular physical, as they check your height, weight, and blood pressure, only its not billed as such so my insurance doesnt cover it. Then theyll insist on rescheduling you for your papsmear, which they will also try to bill you for. Then over a period of about 3 months youll receive weird bills, like that youre being charged because your doctor prescribed supplements for anemia (didnt happen). Even the Dignity Health billers cant make sense of what youre being charged for. Then after about a year, out of the blue you receive a bill for $65.84 for Office Visit Level 3--Established Patient (papsmear appointment) which, again, cant be explained by the billers except to recommend that you take it up with insurance. So instead of that merry-go-round, again, I decided to pay the damn bill (Ive already switched providers, but this makes me leery of the new place as well) and let everyone know my experience. Youve been warned.
