Don’t expect anything fancy, but quality is there. It is cash only place. We were not been forced to tip. Which is really great nowadays! Really appreciate it. The owner spoke in Spanish and English. So you can choose your own language;)
They also have bike parking next to the place, or they let one man to bring his bike into the place while he had his haircut. They were also pretty fast, we didn’t do appointment, so we walked in and waited just 10 minutes and they did hair cut-short ( level 4) in like 20 minutes
Salon Image - San Mateo Matthew Reeve: Fantastic service! Extremely clean and safe shop. Tom is great at all types of hair and nails, and his wife Ann is superb at nails. She has the most amazing massage skills with her pedicures. Prices are very competitive for this area.
Make an appointment - they can get very busy.
Pro Tip: go in the front door on your first visit (parking meters), but when finished get familiar with the back door entrance. The parking there is free for a couple hours and makes for easy entrance. - just ask them for permission to do that on your next visit!
Estrellas beauty salon - East Palo Alto Leslie: I requested permanent straightening but was given Botox capilar without being informed. While the treatment was done well, it wasn’t what I wanted

Vanessa is a wonderful hair dresser, who listens to your needs & comes with clear + creative solutions. I’ve gone to her several time now, and particularly love the way her cuts grow out — I never feel icky in between appointments.
Alexis: I’m specifically writing this review because I know you (reader)! You’re trying to find who you can trust with something that you keep on your face every single day. I haven’t colored my hair in years, and was a little unsure when I came to see Alexis. She thought about it, took her time, and created a wonderful color palette for me.
I’m really grateful for the time, attention, and care both these ladies have given me, and highly encourage you to check them out!
Radhika Beauty Salon - Palo Alto Sehej Johar: Extremely good price for the area to accommodate local students - $30 for full face threading! I love how my eyebrows turned out and it was much less painful than what I usually experience. Thank you so much!
PREP - Palo Alto Lauren Rubin: My daughters love getting their hair cut at Prep with Sherry. The salon is always clean, they have iPads for the kids and popcorn and lollipops once the appointment is done. Tipping is done seamlessly through texting. My girls are always excited to come get their hair cut. I’d give this place ten stars if I could!
Social Salon - Palo Alto Shelby Smith: Amazing! I saw Rose for a color correction, after having my hair turned orange by another stylist at a different salon, and she absolutely went above and beyond to fix the mess I came in with. I left feeling like myself again, nearly identical to the inspiration photo. Not an easy feat with the canvas I showed up with! She was kind, knowledgeable and so attentive to detail. Overall, the salon has a welcoming and sunny vibe, and the plus of having two sweet shop puppies!
Madison Reed Hair Color Bar Palo Alto - Palo Alto True Crime Alert: Worst experience in hair salon for root touch up. All they do is color so shouldnt be hard. Stylist put dark brown blotchy color on my auburn hair with blond highlights. She did not bring out color chart to match my hair or ask my opinion. I trusted her as all they do is color so shouldnt be rocket science. Now I have permanent dark blotchy brown on part of my hair looks ridiculous. To take off permanent color is damaging expensive. The salon does not answer phone. Warning stay away.

Just this year she was out for several months and I had to go to someone else who was highly recommended, but to be honest, she does a much better job than this expensive recommendation in the City.
Maybe my hair is a little trickier because it’s kind of curly, but not extremely.
Not the cheapest haircut but definitely after several weeks after the haircut growing out I’m always grateful that I went to Ngoc! and 18/8
Monica Foster Salon - Palo Alto LC Nichols: One star for a full refund. I asked for a feather layer with bang chin length haircut. What I got for $168 (not including tip) was a box shape botched layer haircut. Box shape is being nice, picture a mullet. The right side layers are shorter, creating a hole. Not sure why but Monica and another hair cutter asked me which side I part??? What? Layers are even and blended! There must be a lot of mercury in the water in the bay area. Monica offered to recut. I think I will end up with a pixie. I asked another hair cutter and she said she will have to cut a lot off! She told me to wait for my hair to grow out. I do not recommend this salon. Save your money. $168 is too much to flush down the toilet. My hair cut by Monica was student level and there was no teacher to correct her botched cut.
