1 /5 Brianna Gia: It has just been about a year since my experience with Care For Women’s Medical Group had ended and I now feel it is important to share said experience. To give some context, I was pregnant for the very first time last year and went to this facility for care on top of seeing specialists for a complication during my pregnancy. I want to first say, don’t let the office staff fool you. In the beginning they are kind and helpful, but as time went on, in my experience, they became rude overtime. I felt the switch in customer relations when my insurance switched halfway through my care. With the new insurance I had, the facility would be receiving less of a payout from myself and insurance and therefore they made multiple claims they did not accept my insurance. When I spoke with the office staff, I was given the run around more times than I can count. I went into my labor and delivery not knowing for sure if it would be covered due to Care For Women’s taking forever to get back to me. The only solid form of knowing I had was my insurance telling me it would be covered meanwhile my OB is saying it wouldn’t be covered at all. My next complaint is the constant switching of OB’s. Why would you not keep a patient, especially a pregnant one, with the same doctor? I had to deal with constant undermining of mine symptoms because I was seeing a new doctor every single appointment. On top of that, I was diagnosed with HG and was prescribed medication to treat it by Care For Women’s, but they would only approve the name brand. They wouldn’t approve a generic version and therefore my pharmacy could only offer me a $400 medication. My requests for the generic medication were denied each time by the facility. Each appointment I was told the vomiting and nausea would go away, it never did, I was sick the entirety of my pregnancy. Following, at my 20 week anatomy scan and the appointment that followed it, I was told there were no issues during the ultrasound and everything looked perfect. Two months later, during an ultrasound, my OB asks, “And they told you about the [redacted], right?” They had not told me anything two months prior about any complication. Come to find out, my son had and still has a chronic and severe health condition. They acted as through them withholding that information from me was nothing. I went two whole months thinking my baby was perfectly healthy which he was not. He is turning a year soon and is doing amazing now that we are working with incredible doctors over at Loma Linda. To end, the part where I feel Care For Women’s truly failed is during my labor and delivery. I went into my 40 week appointment feeling good and walked out being told my son’s heart wasn’t strong enough and they went me to San Antonio to be monitored. I knew what that meant right off the bat, they most likely just wanted to induce me prior to the holiday season. Of course though, I was scared something was wrong with my son and I went to be monitored. Very quickly, the staff at San Antonio said my son was fine, but I was not as my blood pressure was through the roof. I had preeclampsia towards the end of my pregnancy and was nervous in that moment, of course my blood pressure was crazy. They admitted me and that is where my labor and delivery began. This review isn’t to scare anyone or to say this is the standard of their care, but I don’t believe any pregnant woman should have to deal with what is stated above. Advocate for yourself. Doctors are doctors are a reason, but they are not gods and they don’t know everything especially when it comes to just making people feel welcome. It’s most important than they may think.
