Go-Gabhi Lai Stay away! No accountability. Sloppy work. Untrustworthy. Ripoff. As an out-of-towner, I took my Volvo for repair due to a busted coolant container over the Christmas break. Took two trips and made two payments (he had taken a photo of my credit card). First, they replaced the coolant container (which promptly leaked again within an hour), and then they replaced the hose, which should have been fixed the first time around. Put me back by over $3000! OEM parts cost

Danelle (Danny) This mechanic is a scammer. I took my car in because the engine emissions light came on. When I tried to explain the history of the issue, he interrupted me and said, “I have a master degree in auto mechanics so I’ll diagnose the problem.” He charged me 400 dollars to “replace” an oxygen sensor. He said he was leaving town and I had to pay him over the phone and he would leave my keys on the wheel. After I picked up my car the engine emissions light came back on 30 minutes into my drive home. Mechanic would not return my calls. I then took my car to another mechanic who said no oxygen sensors were replaced and no work had been done on my car. Alpine Garage charged me $400 dollars to turn off the warning code and lie to me. I read another review where Alpine Garage told another customer he was leaving town and they had to pay over the phone. This seems to be a way to not take accountability and not have to face customers. Terrible service and a dishonest human. I am disputing the charges on my card.

Joanna Gorczyca Juan is an absolute lifesaver! Our car’s engine overheated while driving up the mountain in Mammoth Lakes and we found ourselves stranded on a steep roadside just as the sun was setting. It was stressful and a bit scary being stuck in such a remote spot. Juan showed up like a hero — not only did he quickly help assess and solve the issue with our car, but he also took the time to escort us all the way down the mountain to make sure we made it safely back to our cabin. His calm energy, kindness, and above-and-beyond attitude brought us peace of mind during a really overwhelming moment. If you ever need help in the Mammoth area, this is the place to call — and Juan is the guy you want. Truly grateful for his help and would recommend this service 100 times over!

Brandon Begley ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE AND DANGEROUS SERVICE My father’s Jeep broke down on the narrow, two-lane Lake Mary Road after a large nail punctured the radiator. He was stranded in an extremely hazardous spot, blocking a lane on a winding, high-traffic highway with no emergency shoulder. It was a life-threatening situation, and AAA quickly dispatched this towing company with an estimated 25-minute arrival time. When Juan from the tow company called, he was already aware that we were blocking traffic in a dangerous location. Despite that, he said he wouldn’t come until he received confirmation from the repair shop and then hung up. No concern, no urgency, and absolutely no professionalism. It was outrageous. We contacted AAA again, only to find out the tow company had canceled the request without telling us. AAA reordered the tow and even called the police on our behalf due to how unsafe the situation had become. The next call we received was from Juan Jr., who also made it clear they wouldn’t be coming until they confirm with the auto repair shop who’s line kept going to voicemail. I’ve used AAA for years and have never once heard of a tow driver needing confirmation from a repair shop before assisting a stranded vehicle, especially in an emergency. We were completely abandoned by this company, left to manage a serious safety risk on our own. Thankfully, the Mammoth Police Department arrived and handled the situation with total professionalism. After an hour, still thinking a tow truck was on the way, the car cooled down enough and they helped us safely reposition the vehicle off the road. Even they told us they’ve had repeated issues with this same towing company. If it wasn’t for AAA and the outstanding local police, this could have easily turned into a major accident. I rarely leave negative reviews, but the complete lack of help, compassion, and basic human decency from Juan and his son was appalling. Avoid this company at all costs. Their negligence could cost someone their life.

Amelia Wang My alternator broke. Even though they are really busy they fit me in as soon as they could so I’m not stuck at Mammoth Lakes. Wonderful owner, honest people, and excellent service. I’m really grateful for their help and cannot recommend this place high enough.

Matt Hurn Disappointing and Dangerous Experience I was traveling through the Eastern Sierras when I realized I needed my front brake pads replaced. Thankfully, Figueroa’s was able to fit me in for a same-day appointment — that responsiveness earns them one star. Unfortunately, everything after that was a letdown. I was told the service would take 2 hours, which gave us a chance to enjoy Mammoth Village. Instead, the job took over 6 hours, with no proactive updates — just waiting around with vague reassurances. More concerning, though, were the issues with the actual service: 1. Brake Safety: Somehow, air was introduced into the brake lines during a simple pad replacement — something that shouldn’t happen. They couldn’t properly bleed the brakes and claimed the issue was with my vehicle, which had no prior problems. The result was a dangerously soft brake pedal feel. 2. Improper Installation: Most alarmingly, they severely overtorqued one lug nut and under-tightened others. This caused one stud to snap entirely and left two lug nuts on the same wheel dangerously loose. While driving on the highway, the wheel began to shake violently and nearly came off. I had to pull over immediately and get towed to another shop for urgent repairs. They may be one of the more readily available shops in Mammoth — and in a pinch, that matters. But beware: convenience came at the cost of quality and safety in my case. This wasn’t just poor service — it was dangerous. I’m very fortunate nothing worse happened.

Edgar responded quickly to our text and showed up when he said he would. Imbecile to his word, timely, reasonably priced. Can’t recommend highly enough!!! Lewis White March 2024 – Edgar and team saved the day. I called 7 tire shops in Bishop and the Mammoth Lakes area. This was the only service that agreed to complete a flat tire repair at 8:50pm on a Saturday evening. Mind you, this was 20 mins from Mammoth Mtn and in an area with no cell service. Tire was plugged/will have my snow tire patched upon removal. Thanks to Edgar and crew, we are looking forward to a full day of skiing tomorrow. Excellent focus on quality and communication. Grateful and appreciative is an understatement.

Jose Cruz Ive lived in Mammoth for over 30 years. I try and give my business to different mechanic shops but this location lacks common business knowledge. I took my vehicle for a basic wheel alignment, I was contacted to be informed that they didnt align vehicles of my model year. Still got charged $100 for having dropped off my vehicle.

Lasse Silkjaer Had some issues with noise on my Sprinter van, which I was not able to identify. Went to another local shop before coming here, where they treated me quite disrespectfully. Went to Norco, who asked me to come back 45 mins later. Came back and they were able to identify it. It wasnt anything serious that needed immediate attention, so I could drive on. They didnt charge me anything.

Ramon Came to Norco close to 5pm with a leaking tire and a short time to get to our next stop. They asked to come back next morning. They did an awesome and well-priced job and we were back on our way at 8:20am. Thank you!

He is so knowledgeable and gave me the peace of mind to make it home at a reasonable price. I’m considering moving to Mammoth just to make this place my go to mechanic.

Brian Choi The staff at JR Tire were lifesavers. I had a sidewall blowout on an AWD vehicle and my spare was a whole size undersized since I upgraded my tires. I knew I could get home if I had at least 1 tire of similar size without having to change all 4, as my tires were relatively new. No other shops were even willing to entertain the idea of getting me home on 1 mismatched tire even if I knew the risk Id be taking to my differential, but it wouldve been whole lot worse on the spare trying to limp 300+ miles back to LA. JR Tire Shop just happened to be the only shop around even out to Bishop that had my exact tire size. They were open 1 hour before their advertised business hours on memorial day holiday, and changed the tire out for me on the spot to get me home. 5/5 would recommend if youre in a pinch, and need guys that are willing to work with you.

Richard Tang Got a leak on a front tire in Convict lake parking lot. After using the air pump, hand tool bought at Costco, I was able to drive to JR. Though the store was closed, I called the numbers on the banner, Juan came to open the store. He was quick finding the leak on the sidewall and replaced with a good one at a very reasonable price. This was the second tire I got into the trouble. The first one took place in Carlsbad and I had waited 3.5 hours to get it fixed in Mazda dealer. What a bad luck to have tire troubles in two weeks, but this time I was able to get out of it in less than 30 min. Bravo!

Jacob Moore Bought a used vehicle and needed a new cat in order to pass smog. They initially quoted me 1200 for the part plus labor and said it would take 1-2 weeks. Well 1-2 weeks had passed and no communication from the shop. There was a 4 ft snow storm and my car had been parked there because they said the part would be in very soon. Car was left outside with 4 ft of snow on top of it for multiple weeks. They call me into the shop to say the car is ready, when I get there They just show me that they had ordered the wrong part for the car so I now have to wait another 3 weeks. Car still covered in snow. By the time I picked my car up it had been 6 weeks since I dropped it off. End up paying 2400 and walk out to my car to find my front windshield cracked halfway across. I walk back up to the employees and tell them that this was not here when I dropped the car off. They refuse to help and just say that they will give me a call. Never got the call. Never go here, they are not professional at all. They are more focused on fixing their friends project cars than paying customers who are local residents. Do not go here. Wasted my time, money and now my windshield is cracked from their incompetence. Don’t waste your time with these guys.

Ethan Brown While on vacation our cars power steering went out. Near closing time on Friday, their mechanic took the time to meet with me, and said they would try to assess the problem the next day. Keep in mind, that the shop was fully booked for customers on Saturday, and they had staff out because of illness. They evaluated the issue and determined that the power steering pump was bad. Im very appreciative of the extra effort Carl, the owner, and his team put in on my behalf. The community of Mammoth Lakes is fortunate to have a shop that has not only skill and experience, but that will go out of their way to help out-of-towners in auto distress.
