  • BODYROK San Mateo - Reformer Pilates Studio - San Mateo
Dayna Santana: Ive been attending BodyRok San Mateo 3-5 times a week for the past 4 months and absolutely love it! The classes are always challenging, never the same class sequence twice, and Ive seen noticeble iimprovements in my strength, stamina, and overall tone. The instructors are amazing -motivating, knowledgeable and bring great energy to every class. My 24yr old son has also attended class and loved it as well! Highly recommend!
Peninsula Family YMCA - San Mateo
John Ababseh: First off HUGE shoutout to Jaspar and Ashley! They work at this YMCA and were so welcoming right when I walked into the gym. I came with a lot of questions about the gym and they were extremely patient and understanding. They told me about all the amenities and the open basketball times, so I can do drills. The gym itself is a bit older but has all the basics you need to get a good workout. There were no ā€œgym snobsā€ and people were respectful on the equipment not taking forever, or on their phones. The basketball court is big and they have rotating group classes you can take to change up your workout routines! The locker rooms are clean and have modern code lock systems, so you don’t need to bring your own lock AND they have towel service!! Most gyms took away clean towels, so that’s a huge bonus. Lastly the pool and jacuzzi is cleaned every week, which makes you want to use them. I’ve tried most of the gyms in the peninsula and the San Mateo YMCA is my favorite! I ended up joining as a member with Jaspar’s help and couldn’t be more happier!
The Body Studio For Fitness - San Mateo
Judy Fisher: I have been a client of the Body Studio for Fitness for more than 4 years, training regularly with Danny Gordon, one of the owners, 2-3 times per week. This is the longest I have every exercised regularly in my life! Danny encourages me to push myself in every session and achieve the best results both through nutrition and exercise. Danny is a firm as well as encouraging trainer who really cares about lifelong fitness and health as well as his clients. He and his wife, Theresa, co-owners, really live their motto, "Dont Give it Power!" I am in the best fitness condition of my life and even ran a half-marathon last year with their encouragement and example--they walk the talk! I also really like supporting a locally-owned business that has been here for 20 years. I love the Body Studio for Fitness and encourage anyone who would like a custom-designed exercise program to go and check them out. I hate gyms and am so glad I walked into their private studio 4 years ago! It has changed my life for the better.
F45 Training Burlingame - San Mateo
April L: This is by far the best gym and workout I have been to. All the coaches (coach Momo, coach Nana and Murat, and a few more) are super amazing, and it feels like a family. With 45 mins workout, you get your heart pumping and muscles worked out, and the coaches are always there to correct your postures. And the energy of the place is just fantastic. After only a few weeks going there regularly, I can feel it making a big difference on both my body and my mind. I will recommend anyone who is interested in starting a workout routine.
OPEX KURA | Personal Training & Lifestyle Coaching - San Mateo
Susanne Prokscha: Ive been working out at OPEX Kura with Melissa as my coach since early June of this year and really love the format: personal trainer, floor coaches, working sessions, monthly check-ins. But I was most pleased to find a reasonably diverse group of gym goers: good number of female clients and some variety of ages and sizes. I (65F, overweight, very self conscious) thought I would hate weight/strength training and the whole going-to-the-gym thing, but I dont. Ive come to enjoy my sessions and how I feel physically after a workout. I can already see huge progress in what I can do in and out of the gym. I give Melissa a lot of credit for that and am expecting to continue for the long term.
Power Up Training - San Mateo
Dorothy H.: Power Up is an awesome addition to the neighborhood! I’ve tried many group fitness classes in the area, but I wanted to find a place that’s strength-focused, where I can challenge myself and level up. The coaching team here is so knowledgeable and experienced. I get a ton of personal attention (so far I’ve never had more than 3 people in class)! I’ve learned a lot about proper form, injury prevention, and how to confidently and safely use equipment. The workouts are well-rounded and never boring. I feel like I’m always learning something new! The gym is still fairly new, but I’m excited to see more people discover and join this community! This is the perfect place for anyone curious or maybe a bit intimidated by strength training (but really need it!)
Optimum Strength and Conditioning - San Mateo
Franklin Kuo: I’ve been training at Optimum Strength and Conditioning for the past two months and it has made a big difference in my performance on the basketball court. As someone who plays basketball and is involved in other sports, I was looking for a program that would help me get stronger, more explosive, and ready for games. That’s exactly what I’ve found here. My trainer Cameron Lew is extremely knowledgeable and takes the time to tailor each workout to my needs. He focuses on building strength, improving agility, and increasing endurance. Since I’ve started, I’ve noticed clear improvements in my strength and speed, and learned ways to take care of my body so that I can remain healthy to play sports.
Quinta’s Jungle Gym - San Mateo
Holly Roser Fitness Studio - San Mateo
Isabella Firpo: I have had the opportunity to train with Holly and many of her amazing trainers. They are all so professional, friendly and helpful. They put my fitness goals first and always make our sessions fun and tailored to my abilities. They are so knowledgeable and always keep an eye on my form so I can avoid injury and reap the most benefits from the workout. I’m so lucky to have found Holly Roser Fitness!
    Crossfit Burlingame - San Mateo
Thomas Koo: I know that when traveling during the holidays, finding a good CrossFit box can be hit or miss. I’ll be in the Bay Area this Christmas season (2025), and the owner has already gone above and beyond to accommodate my requests ahead of my stay. I’m genuinely excited to ā€˜embrace the suck’ when I’m there next month. I’ll post another review after my visit, but so far they’ve been incredibly welcoming and responsive.
