  • F45 Training Burlingame - San Mateo
April L: This is by far the best gym and workout I have been to. All the coaches (coach Momo, coach Nana and Murat, and a few more) are super amazing, and it feels like a family. With 45 mins workout, you get your heart pumping and muscles worked out, and the coaches are always there to correct your postures. And the energy of the place is just fantastic. After only a few weeks going there regularly, I can feel it making a big difference on both my body and my mind. I will recommend anyone who is interested in starting a workout routine.
OPEX KURA | Personal Training & Lifestyle Coaching - San Mateo
Susanne Prokscha: Ive been working out at OPEX Kura with Melissa as my coach since early June of this year and really love the format: personal trainer, floor coaches, working sessions, monthly check-ins. But I was most pleased to find a reasonably diverse group of gym goers: good number of female clients and some variety of ages and sizes. I (65F, overweight, very self conscious) thought I would hate weight/strength training and the whole going-to-the-gym thing, but I dont. Ive come to enjoy my sessions and how I feel physically after a workout. I can already see huge progress in what I can do in and out of the gym. I give Melissa a lot of credit for that and am expecting to continue for the long term.
Power Up Training - San Mateo
Dorothy H.: Power Up is an awesome addition to the neighborhood! I’ve tried many group fitness classes in the area, but I wanted to find a place that’s strength-focused, where I can challenge myself and level up. The coaching team here is so knowledgeable and experienced. I get a ton of personal attention (so far I’ve never had more than 3 people in class)! I’ve learned a lot about proper form, injury prevention, and how to confidently and safely use equipment. The workouts are well-rounded and never boring. I feel like I’m always learning something new! The gym is still fairly new, but I’m excited to see more people discover and join this community! This is the perfect place for anyone curious or maybe a bit intimidated by strength training (but really need it!)
Optimum Strength and Conditioning - San Mateo
Franklin Kuo: I’ve been training at Optimum Strength and Conditioning for the past two months and it has made a big difference in my performance on the basketball court. As someone who plays basketball and is involved in other sports, I was looking for a program that would help me get stronger, more explosive, and ready for games. That’s exactly what I’ve found here. My trainer Cameron Lew is extremely knowledgeable and takes the time to tailor each workout to my needs. He focuses on building strength, improving agility, and increasing endurance. Since I’ve started, I’ve noticed clear improvements in my strength and speed, and learned ways to take care of my body so that I can remain healthy to play sports.

Holly Roser Fitness Studio - San Mateo
Isabella Firpo: I have had the opportunity to train with Holly and many of her amazing trainers. They are all so professional, friendly and helpful. They put my fitness goals first and always make our sessions fun and tailored to my abilities. They are so knowledgeable and always keep an eye on my form so I can avoid injury and reap the most benefits from the workout. I’m so lucky to have found Holly Roser Fitness!
    Crossfit Burlingame - San Mateo
Thomas Koo: I know that when traveling during the holidays, finding a good CrossFit box can be hit or miss. I’ll be in the Bay Area this Christmas season (2025), and the owner has already gone above and beyond to accommodate my requests ahead of my stay. I’m genuinely excited to ‘embrace the suck’ when I’m there next month. I’ll post another review after my visit, but so far they’ve been incredibly welcoming and responsive.
Progressive Kinetic Wellness | San Mateo Personal Trainer - San Mateo
Danielle Potter: I worked with Brandon for over two years, and I can confidently say he changed my life and the way I approach the weight room. He leads with so much empathy and professionalism and that really helped ease my anxiety/fear around tackling weights. Because of him I understand myself so much more now and I’m so grateful for everything he’s helped me achieve, and I can’t recommend him highly enough!
Aloha Time Boxing San Mateo - San Mateo
Eric Chu: Aloha Time Boxing has been an amazing gym from the first day I walked in. Everyone there is like family and it starts with the owners and trainers. Bruno, Bazzel, Arnold and Steve are all first class professionals that offer training to every skill level. Whether you’re just looking for an amazing workout, or wanting to really learn and polish technical boxing skills, Aloha Time delivers in every way. I’ve been training with Arnold directly and cannot thank him enough for all the coaching he provides through his personal professional fighting and training experience.
10th Planet Jiu Jitsu San Mateo - San Mateo
Kravis Roberts: Visiting from Hong Kong and trained at 10th Planet San Mateo for the past 3 months, hands down one of the best jiu jitsu gyms in the Bay Area. Adam is an incredible coach who makes every class technical, safe, and fun. The training environment is super friendly and welcoming, with a very high level of jiu jitsu. Whether you’re a beginner or advanced, this is the place to train on the Peninsula. Can’t recommend it enough!
