Julia Anderson My experience at Tulip salon was unfortunately quite bad and I would not recommend anyone get their hair colored here. I scheduled a cut and balayage appointment, requesting to have golden/honey tones blended into my hair -- explicitly stating not blonde. Ive had balayage done on my hair for years and have never had a bad result like this. I was left with a pretty frustrating result. My hair looked streaky, cheap and very blonde. The cut was also uneven in the back, think upside down triangle shape... When I expressed my concern Amber offered to tone it more but was short and did not apologize. After consulting several other, reputable stylists I was informed toning would not be enough to fix this and I was told based on the job she did, it was unlikely she would know how to properly fix it. I then asked her for a partial refund (also advised to do this by other stylists who stated they would absolutely issue one if this was the result) and was denied - being told "we all have our own preferences." I had to spend hundreds of dollars and four+ hours to get this fixed. I find it extremely unprofessional that she advertises herself as being a capable colorist, charging the price that she does, when I was informed by several stylists this was absolutely not a balayage and simply cheap highlights. Do not go here if you want to get ripped off.

I have very fine + straight hair and often have a hard time communicating my wants but Amber asked questions to make sure she understood what I was after! Would definitely recommend this salon to my friends x

Tina Liang Avoid this hair salon at all costs! I went in with my husband for a quick hair cut and showed them a previous photo of us as a sample of what we wanted. We wanted the hair to look like the photo but slightly shorter. When the cut was done, it was slightly longer than we expected so I asked to cut it a bit shorter. The stylist yelled at me and said thats not what the photo looked like. After I insisted we wanted it to look a bit shorter, he used the scissors and randomly cut it three times without paying attention to where he was cutting and asked if this is short enough. It is beyond my belief how rude they were and how unaccepting to customers requests. It seemed like they just wanted to finish cutting hair as soon as possible. if they can get away with 1 minute per customer, they would totally do it. Absolutely no care to what the customers are looking for.

Xander G-H Been coming here for years. And unfortunately, had a bad experience. This lady not only seemed to struggle to see, took hella long & messed up my hairline. Itll take a couple months or more for things to look good again. $= mediocre results. And seems like something is up with main dude which is also unfortunate.

John Cabiles I love this place. Excellent value and service. Some places Ive been to charge $36+ (before tip) for the same level of care and quality that they provide here. But here, they only charge $16. And honestly, the haircuts here are even better than pricier places Ive been to. Also nice to know that theyve taken their first round of the Covid-19 vaccine. Gives me peace of mind to see some of the precautions that theyve taken to keep customers safe.

Julian Friedman Gloria helped me with the “tails” of my eyebrows which needed some darkening. I’ve never done this before but she walked me through the process which was pretty straightforward. I immediately saw a difference and was pleasantly surprised with how much better they looked. She also recommended waxing my nostrils to clean them up a bit. Didn’t hurt at all and actually felt good to do it. I will definitely be going back when needed for these two treatments.

Anne and Joe Singer Taylor is incredible from start to finish. I was unable to do a trial for my wedding hair and make up (on me, not on Taylor!), but that didn’t scare her away at all and she was more than willing to work with me on my big day. She worked with me before the big day with sharing photos and discussing things I liked/didn’t like, and was able to translate this information, come in day of, and understand exactly what my vision was so that I looked like myself on my wedding day. She is the consummate professional, making it all happen even with an injury she sustained the night before, alerting me to the situation without causing undue stress and anxiety to me. She was excellent at working in the AirBnB we had rented that hosted my entire family (13 people were there), navigating multiple people walking around that were completely unrelated to her job, even helping to spruce up my 90-year old grandmother’s hair and giving some “make up” to my 6.5 and 3 year old nieces who were watching with rapt attention. Taylor herself is a wonderful human and her talent, work, and artistry are fantastic. I would highly recommend her to anyone needing hair and make up in the SF/Bay Area!!

Dee R Visiting sf from Toronto and forgot to bring my blowdrier! As a salon owner myself, I can confidently recommend this salon! I saw Celina for a blowout and from start to finish I was WOWed! They had some adult beverages to choose from as you walk in and I was surprised by their shampoo stations equipped with a massage function and automatic foot rest! My blowout turned out great and exactly the way I would have done it. Celina was super friendly and made me feel comfortable immediately. No complaints from me! Super happy client.

Jazmyn Gallagher The beautician cut and painted my hair beautifully, and it was the best cut Ive ever had. Others should come here because the environment, beauticians, and cosmetics have all been friendly and trustworthy. Furthermore, every visit to this store was a blast.

Christi B. Schenkkan I used to spend close to $70/month on my hair. I now go to a woman who has been at this salon for years and charges $15. Cut is just as good, if not better. She only does sort hair though. The other ladies in the shop do all the other styles. Love this place!

Allison Jay Sterling Alicia is amazing! I came in a few hours before my brother’s wedding for a shampoo and style. I showed her a picture of my dress and she came up with the perfect hairstyle for the occasion. She was really good at explaining what she was doing and why at every step. Highly recommended!

I love my hair and I know if I want to keep it healthy, shiny and beautiful is important to invest in quality products. I met Alicia two years ago and since my first appointment I knew she is the person I was looking for. Very professional and helpful… now she takes care of my kids’s hair as well. I highly recommend Amore Hair Salón. Plus… the place is beautiful decorated and clean. In my opinion… the best in the Mission San Francisco.

Vanesa Ortiz I tried out a few hair salons in the area and she is simply the best! I was surprised how fast, yet perfect she could work. Normally, I end up having to go back to fix something that becomes apparent when the hair is dry but not with her! She did her magic flawlessly in just 15 minutes and I have very long hair! It shows that she has over 30 years (!!!) of experience under her belt. I highly recommend her!

She listens, gives feedback if I want it, but never pushes her ideas on me. I am so grateful for her. Ive let my gray out under her care and my hair looks great when I leave her shop everytime. She is the Hair Mistress!

Lauren Fernandes Maybe I caught Stesha on a bad day, but she was quite judgy towards me and my dead ends during my appointment in January. I explained to her that my last haircut was particularly horrible, which is why it had been so long since Id come into a salon, hence the dead ends. I asked for a trim with an angle cut and face frames (which Id asked for at other salons and gotten with no issue), she asked me if I meant I wanted long bangs. I told Stesha sure, because I was honestly unsure of how to respond to the judgement and attitude I was being met with, and also to try conveying that Im perfectly capable of honoring a professionals opinion on what might work for me. I honestly dont understand why she couldnt just cut my hair the way I initially asked. Stesha cut long bangs on me, and they were big! They are ridiculously choppy (a huge chunk all one length) and awkward. Usually when I get a bad cut its because I asked for layers and they were too short and choppy, which I think anyone whos asked for layers has experienced at least once. In those cases I just have to blow dry and style my hair after washing for months until it grows in and looks nice. This is an entirely different conundrum; even after months these bangs are obviously grown out but still a very different length from the rest of my hair. It sucks because now to get the cut I want, I have to deal with how large these bangs are and its so hard to blend them into the rest of my hair. I was on time for my appointment, perfectly nice and communicative about what I wanted and my fears from past experiences, and she just cut my hair nothing like what I asked for, in a way that doesnt suit me whatsoever. I understand there are different interpretations of what looks good, but maybe thats why the customers preference should be taken more into account. Its their hair and their money after all. Hate to write a bad review for a small business especially given the glowing reviews but Ive literally never been treated this way at a salon before.

I usually do gels, and the technicians go the extra mile . extra layers of polish, neat and precise work, attentive service. Ive also had eyelash extensions here and wow. Again, a technician who goes the extra mile. I want to thank Henry and Linda for their repeated good service. These are not rush job services, so plan accordingly for time, the services take a bit longer than I anticipated, but its completely useful time bcs its spent in quality work. Thanks team!

She took her time, stop in between cuts to see how I liked the look and asked whether or not I wanted water or anything to make me feel comfortable. Great atmosphere and nicely decorated as well! Inna Velyka Everyone knows that finding a good service is a task with an asterisk, moreover when it concerns all matters of beauty, it is completely unreal... But, after almost 2 years, I found one here!!!! It’s Inna! An incredible girl with golden hands! For now I have a plus one person whom I trust and the best hair dyeing using the airtouch technique. Even more - when the little one cut off her own bangs - Inna was also able to correct that. I am very grateful and sincerely recommend!

John Chin Been going to Thong for nearly 40 years now! One of the best value haircuts in the City and drop ins are welcome. Weekdays midday are best for drop ins.

kimbo One of my first times going to a salon, my hair was really damaged and dry so I wanted to cut it off. One of the ladies working there was so frustrated with combing my hair it felt like she was trying to rip my hair off my skull..very harsh and rude. Came back the next day with my mom and she tells my mom in a rude tone, straight up in Cantonese that my hair was impossible to comb and that it was horrible, assuming I didn’t understand her? The second lady that helped me out was much nicer however.

Zaya Batmunkh I had an amazing experience at this hair salon! From the moment I walked in, the staff was welcoming and attentive. One time I came to the salon at 6pm when they were closing the owner Sally was very happy to see me and let me have a haircut I truly appreciate that. She understood my excuse that I didn’t check the closing time. Sally is incredible so talented and professional. She took the time to listen to exactly what I wanted. I left with a cut that exceeded my expectation. What truly stood out was the attention to detail and genuine care throughout the appointment. I can’t recommend this place enough and will definitely be back soon!

Gina Hsieh Im a regular here because the prices are lower than the surrounding Japanese hair salons but there is the same high quality of attention from the staff. They also offer free bang trims in between haircuts.

Rodyan Iraheta Drove here from Antioch so my wife could get her hair colored by Colomba and she had confirmed the appointment. She took half a day off for the appointment. We hit traffic and we were 10 minutes late and as soon as she walked in Colomba said oh I cant do it no more rudely she didnt offer to make another appointment or anything. Last time my wife ever goes there. Made us waste gas and her time from work. She had worked on my wifes hair before but never again.
