1 /5 Archie Criner: I paid $559 dollars to have my engine oil, oil filter and fuel filter changed. I brought in my 1996 ford f350 Powerstroke for a simple oil change. The guy at the desk asked if I would like the fuel filter changed as well and I agreed. I was never given an estimate for the work which I wasn’t overly concerned about since I’ve been to shops before. I was surprised to figure out they charged a full hour to change the fuel filter as it’s right on top of the engine. It alone was over $200 dollars when it’s a plastic cap to unscrew, remove the old and replace with a new one. I’ve done it before and the original ford manual even gives simple and basic instruction upon replacement. On top of that, the oil was never brought up, I will take my blame in trusting a diesel shop to know old diesels should not run full synthetic oil but it’s pretty customary to ask your customer what type of oil they prefer. Just as I shouldn’t have assumed, the mechanic shouldn’t have assumed to put full synthetic in the truck all the while overfilling it by at least half a quart from what I can tell on the dipstick. All and all it was a horrible experience.
