The parks offers a wide variety of fun activities, making it a favorite spot for families- so it can get busy!Convenient parking available in the front, clean restrooms, water fountain, & picnic tables.

5 /5 KDG: Stumbled across the gem in the heart of Salinas. Talk about a playground! Tatum’s Harden had something for children of all ages. We stayed an hour and didn’t see half of it! Our three year old fell in love with the plastic seated swings and the rocking horses. We stayed mainly in the ‘tot lot,’ and could’ve easily remained for hours. Things to climb things to swing, things to slide, things to spin, things to touch, things to explore, things, things, THINGS!

5 /5 E Varga: Accessible, fin and safe for all ages. Has a small library (unfortunately often vandalized, no matter how many times we fix it), always full of kids, large variety of toys and difficulty levels. Great place for children!

4 /5 Denise A: Wonderful playground with an area for younger kids and an area for older kids. Lots of parking and usually theres an ice cream truck there for treats. Bathrooms arent always available though (they were all closed/locked the last few times we went).

National Steinbeck Center - Salinas

K: I really enjoyed walking through the museum. There were a lot of great displays categorizing his life, his loved ones, and his writings. It was fun seeing original writings and artifacts from his life. There’s also a great gift shop with his books, postcards, and other merchandise. Tickets were $15 unless you match one of their discounts.

My family enjoyed the picnic areas, which were clean and spacious, ideal for a relaxing meal or group activities like scout outings. The park’s charm lies in its natural beauty and the sense of calm it brings to every visitor. With plenty of open spaces for kids to run and explore, it’s an excellent choice for outdoor adventures or a peaceful retreat. The park’s upkeep and welcoming atmosphere made our visit memorable, and we’ll definitely return for more hikes and picnics!

Cecilia bode: Such a hidden gem! I was awed by how much information the tour guide had, and although the main exhibit is still in the works I was completely amazed! The number of authentic artifacts and one of a kind specimens was unmatched, dating back to even thousands of years old fossils. This is perfect for history lovers and learner alike! I would suggest calling in advance because it is still in the works!

Sherwood Park - Salinas

Salas Json “J-Gante”: We absolutely love this play yard, park area food our 3 year old daughter. It is completely fenced in, has injury free flooring and the bathrooms are well kept. Networking with the other parents was and is awesome to do! To let your child make friends and enjoy the ample space to roam is great for the kids. We usually take snacks and water for the kids. Its never a dull moment when here, laughter and smiles are in abundance!

Salinas River National Wildlife Refuge -

Darrell Stanaford: 5* for nature & serenity, 3* for isolation & lack of amenities. A little visited spot just off Hwy 1 with beautiful wetlands and isolated endless beach running north to the mouth of the Salinas River. No toilets, water or trash cans. Parking reached via dirt road (1 km) that can be impassable after heavy rain (offering the option of adding a muddy extra km to your hike). Sign says open sunrise to sunset.
