Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara Medical Center - Santa Clara
Lydia V: Worst ER experience. Last night I went to the ER for constant vomiting of bile and not being able to hold anything down. I walked in and literally had a bucket in my hands in case I was to vomit again. I was feeling very weak, and the check in nurse was rude. I sat down to get my blood pressure taken, and I began to get emotional due to the severe stomach pain I had. She asked “are you just crying because of the vomiting?” I disregarded this and sat in the waiting area. I then got moved to a room within the ER. Mind you my spouse was with me. This portion was okay, the ER doctor was adamant that I had a viral infection. At this point I was told I would be taken to the back area of the ER to be given fluids, and that my spouse could not go with me. This has only been an issue at this hospital and the one on Santa Teresa. I asked if I were to wait in the waiting area if I could get fluids there as I was feeling dizzy. They said I would not receive treatment. My spouse ended up waiting outside in his vehicle during the duration of me receiving fluids. When I was in the back area I heard some of the nurses discussing a child that had been screaming in the ER that was potentially on the spectrum. They seemed to be judging his behavior and the parent for not correcting their child’s behavior. One of them even saying that they would punish their future children for any unruly behavior. Also because I was carrying a bucket/vomit bags. It appeared as if many staff members were laughing at me. Clearly there is no empathy here. I work in customer service, and I would be in trouble for displaying any of this behavior while at work. The ER is definitely not the place to be laughing at patients, and having a horrible attitude. I get it working in a hospital/ER would be very difficult and there are ways of coping such as making jokes. But maybe one shouldn’t make those jokes in earshot of other patients. The nurse I had that administered my fluids was sweet and caring. I had to ask the doctor to prescribe me medicine for the vomiting or I wouldn’t have received any form of medication. This morning I still felt sick, and still was vomiting. Overall I don’t think that this review will make any changes, but I wanted people to be aware. I will consider changing my insurance after this and many other negative experiences.

Family Practice Medical Group - Santa Barbara
Reed Loose: My initial visit at the Family Practice Medical Group was with Dr.Payne in the summer of 2020 - totally fine first visit, no problems at all. I ended up having a telehealth visit in 2022, but hadnt been in person for several years, so recently booked an appointment. I ended up missing my appointment this week because of a communication issue (definitely partially my fault). I called them today to reschedule and they let me know that there was a $40 no show fee - which I was happy to pay immediately. They then proceeded to tell me that a new policy had been implemented back in 2023 that classified existing patients as new patients if 3 years passed between appointments, and that because my last appointment had been in 2022, I had to pay a $240 admin fee (only for new patients). They noted that they werent sure when my telehealth appointment was in 2022 (month/day), but because it was now 2025, I would have to pay the $240 fee. I havent gone back to check when in 2022 my appointment was, so Im not even sure its actually been 3 years since my last appointment, but it was super odd they didnt have this information and decided that the best course of action was to assume my last appointment was in the first quarter of 2022. I asked them if I would have been charged this $240 fee if I showed up to my appointment this week, and I was told no, which made it seem like they overlooked the fee initially and only noticed once I missed the appointment. When I pointed out that that seemed odd, the person I was talking to decided to check with their manager to see what would have actually happened. I was then told that I actually would have been charged when I showed up at my appointment - which ironically seemed even worse. That means that I would have showed up to my appointment and been given the choice to either pay a $240 fee in addition to my copay if I wanted to see the doctor, and if I had declined, I would have been charged a no show fee. Which is quite literally strong arming the patient into paying some sort of additional fee no matter what. The biggest issue is that they didnt communicate any of this to me at any point until today - no mention of it when I booked the appointment, and no call in between booking and the appointment date. I asked them if they normally let current (lapsed) patients know that theyll have to pay the new patient fee when they call to book their appointment, and I was told that they normally do, but they forgot to tell me. If I had received that communication, which they say is normal practice, I could have scheduled earlier to avoid the 3 year lapse or immediately decided to look for a different practice if I didnt want to pay the $240 admin fee. And even though they told me multiple times that this was their fault because they didnt communicate this to me, they said I would still be responsible for the $240 fee if I wanted to reschedule. That was enough for me - I paid my $40 no show fee, because Im happy to correct my own mistakes like an adult. However, Ill be looking for a new practice/doctor because apparently Family Practice Medical Group think its good business to trap patients into a lose-lose situation where they would be charged some sort of additional fee because of their lack of communication. TLDR: I would definitely recommend visiting Family Practice Medical Group if you would like to give your health data to a business that will happily charge you a $240 lapsed patient fee based on a date they cant even verify themselves. For anyone else, I think its a hard pass.
Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialists of Southern California, part of Pediatrix Medical Group | Santa Barbara - Santa Barbara
Liv McDonald: I got my anatomy ultrasound in Turkey (where I am from) which was approved both by my doctor beforehand and also Pediatrix team was informed about this decision as well. I shared my full anatomy report with my doctor and all was well. However, what was supposed to me my 28 weeks "growth" ultrasound with Pediatrix was turned into a forceful anatomy scan with the untruthful reasoning that the ultrasound doctor could loose his license if he doesnt have me get an anatomy ultrasound given by him and if something was wrong with my baby. What? Really? Where did my medical freedom go? I felt pushed and coerced into a procedure I clearly denied. All medical decisions about my baby and my baby is solely made by ME. I accept full responsibility. I wont be accepting my more coercion by Pediatrix members anymore. I will also post this review publicly so that mothers know how to prepare for situations like this. Also, my anatomy ultrasound in Turkey lasted for over an hour with so much detail and explanation but Pediatrix doctor wrapped it up in 15 minutes. Guess which one I trust more?
Dr. Richard D Danson MD - Santa Barbara

Issels Medical Center - Santa Barbara
Vascular Neurology of Southern California: Santa Barbara - Santa Barbara
Malia McGinley: This is a very unfortunate review because Dr. Zauner is great, however his staff, specifically Michelle and Diedra are absolutely terrible. They have zero compassion, zero respect, are lazy and don’t want to put in any work for the Doctors patients. If you need a call back, records sent, or an insurance authorization...good luck. I am a new mom, with symptoms that are getting worse, then add a pendemic, all I was hoping for was a little help from them. I worked as a medical office manager for 6 years and would never treat my patients this way, and would always make sure they received the care they needed. I decided not to be a patient there anymore strictly due to the office staff.

Cottage Residential Center - Santa Barbara
Ken Smith: Let me be perfectly honest with this place. It’s the most beautiful and amazing place to get sober. I came here from 5Bath. My experience came in twofold first I was shunned by a bunch of patients who came in together. I didn’t care because about their issues. They were kicked out because of drugs. This place has saved my life with the most knowledgeable and caring staff. So don’t listen to people who were kicked out for not keeping this place safe. Please trust in what I am telling you. Great place to get your life back together. Thanks CRC
