06-2025 Modoc County Museum in Hight rate 3 location for tourist in Alturas, CA, USAMammoth Mountain Ski Area - Mammoth Lakes Zavaruev Oleg “OZ”: I had an amazing time at Mammoth Lakes Ski Resort! The views are absolutely breathtaking, and the slopes are perfectly maintained for all skill levels. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced skier, there’s something for everyone. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the entire atmosphere felt welcoming and energetic. I especially loved the variety of runs and the quality of the snow. The resort is well-organized, with great amenities, restaurants, and lift access. Can’t wait to come back—highly recommended for a perfect winter getaway!
Earthquake Fault - Mammoth Lakes John Mendoza: Cool fissure but clearly whoever manages the place doesnt care. The fences around the walking path by the fissure has SIGNIFICANT portions down allowing anyone, especially a curious kid, potentially go right into the fissure. The maintenance is absolutely abysmal.
There are no informational signs whatsoever. It looks like they started to make it ADA compliant and then changed their mind. It looks very neglected.
Hole in the Wall - Kyle Chaidez: Steep hike from the campgound. Beautiful vistas. You can stop at the top of the canyon, dirt surf down, then spend an hour slipping and crawling your way back up. Or, just stay at the top of it, its pretty cool. Nice, short hike.
Twin Lakes Vista - Joe Joe H: Nice little stop with wonderful views when youre in Mammoth Lakes.
Parking is tight, though, with only 8 spaces I think. No bathrooms.
You can drive up near the cabins to get a better view of the lake and the little foot bridge.
Minaret Vista - Mammoth Lakes Camille Rios: The view here is beautiful and there are restrooms. There isnt much shade, but if you dont mind the sun its a nice spot to have a picnic.
Upper Panorama Scenic Gondola Building - Mammoth Lakes Aveek Das: The gondola takes you up to the top of the mammoth mountain And the views and the ride is extremely amazing. The cost is approximately $40 for an adult but it is totally worth it. At the top there was plenty of snow even in the end of May. This is one of the best options to go to the top of the mountain if you are not skiing. At the top there is a Visitor Center and a cafe. Would recommend if you’re in the area. Views from the top are amazing.
Crystal Lake Trailhead - Mammoth Lakes Rachel Counts: AMAZING views. The views from up top are not of crystal lake. You see other lakes while hiking up, and then you hike down to see crystal lake at the end. Hike was steep & not easy, but also doable with breaks (for people in ok but not great shape). 10/10 worth it for the views! Note: we got there before 8:00 and got the last “real” parking spot.
Twin Falls Overlook - Mammoth Lakes Thao Tran: What a beautiful and peaceful scene! Visited on a Sunday in August during sunset and the view is breathtaking! Not crowded at all. No hike needed. Theres a very short walk from the parking spot to the viewpoint.
Mammoth Creek Park - Mammoth Lakes Doug Rockey: The park itself is on BLM land, but the access is kindly allowed through private property. Please keep clean and dont be a Richard so access can continue. Beautiful meadows, woods and stream, a hidden gem hard to find without using an app like all trails.
Shady Rest Park - Mammoth Lakes Oana Gusatu: Great nature park inside an old established pine forest. In the middle there are several sports grounds, very clean facilities, many picnic tables both covered and uncovered, a nice playground and a skate park. Lots of trails to explore and well connected to the main road via a 1/2 long path. Dog and stroller friendly.
