1 /5 Syed Mustafa Abidi: I am writing to formally express my concerns and disappointment regarding the care my wife received during her recent visit to Birthplace Desert Valley Hospital. My wife is currently 34 weeks pregnant, and her experience on 26th February was distressing and, frankly, unacceptable.
After experiencing swelling in her feet, she contacted the IEHP Dr. help line, who advised us to go to your hospital for a thorough checkup due to elevated blood pressure readings. Upon arrival, we checked in and waited for approximately 30 minutes before she was called in for her examination, while I was asked to wait in the waiting area.
Once inside, the ultrasound technicians demeanor was concerning. Throughout the ultrasound, her facial expressions suggested something was wrong, causing undue anxiety for both of us. Despite my wifes assurance that she could feel the baby moving, the technician insisted the baby was not responding and recommended drinking cold water to stimulate movement. This inconsistency only added to our distress.
Following the ultrasound, we were informed that the babys fetal breathing was recorded as zero, and found something in the baby’s stomach and we were instructed to return the following day for further consultation with Dr. Samadi. This news was alarming and led to a night filled with anxiety and worry about the health of our baby.
Upon seeing Dr. Samadi the next day, he reviewed the reports and conducted another ultrasound, finding no issues with the babys condition. He expressed his disbelief regarding the previous reports and assured us that they were inaccurate. My gynecologist later confirmed the same, noting that your staff lacked the expertise to interpret the results correctly.
The distress that this situation caused my wife and me cannot be overstated. We were left with unnecessary anxiety and fear, which could have been avoided with accurate assessments and communication from your staff.
I urge you to review the protocols and training provided to your ultrasound technicians and ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future. The mental and emotional well-being of expectant parents is crucial, and I hope that you take this matter seriously to prevent others from experiencing similar distress.
