The guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and more than happy to answer questions. He even gave us a live demo of several displays, which really brought the history to life. The collection is packed with authentic artifacts—from massive Pelton wheels to historic mining tools, maps, and even old revolvers. Everything is thoughtfully arranged, and the atmosphere inside the old stone building adds to the charm. A must-visit if youre interested in local history or engineering!
Minnie Park - Grass Valley Barbara Backyard: What a fun accessible playground in the middle of a neighborhood. Sign language board, wheelchair accessible ramps, plenty of shade from large beautiful trees. Fenced off and directly next store to a firestation. Parking is reasonable. Lots of kids/families using this park.
Empire Mine State Historic Park - Grass Valley Holly Hawkins-Worden: Great place with lots of history. Ive been coming to Grass Valley for years now and never knew about this place. Learned a lot by wandering around. Didnt get a guided tour in time, book early. Still enjoyed reading signs and listening to information.
Condon Park - Grass Valley Leurinda Cole: Great dog park only concern is that sometimes dangerous dogs make their way in and other peoples dogs get hurt so beware
Firehouse No. 1 Museum - Nevada City briantravelman: Small, but very cool museum, and its free. The Joss House is the main highlight, but there are also some cool exhibits on the Native tribes, miners and Victorian people. Should not be missed. I wish they were open more frequently.
Calanan Park - Nevada City Vilina Hutter: This is a lovely but tiny little park on the corner of two streets. There are planters to sit on, but it is small and bounded by sidewalks. Its a lovely place for small public gatherings.
Lucchesi Vineyards & Winery - Grass Valley Patricia Rodrigues: I went there looking for a romantic afternoon with my husband. And it was perfect. The guy who poured our wine tasting was very nice. We had a wonderful afternoon drinking wine and enjoying the Sierra view. And you can bring your own snacks.
