5 /5 Ray G: Memorial Park on Third Avenue is hands down my favorite park in Chula Vista. It’s well-maintained and constantly cleaned, and I have to give a special shoutout to the gardeners who do a fantastic job keeping the park beautiful.
One of the standout features is the open, ungated dog park. It’s bright and sunny, with lovely grassy knolls that make it perfect for laying out a blanket while your dog runs around and enjoys the open space. If your dog is on the wild side, just keep in mind that there are no fences to contain them. Fortunately, there are plenty of trash cans for easy waste disposal, which helps keep the area clean.
I do wish there were more benches throughout the park to sit and take in the scenery. If you’re lucky, you might even spot wild parrots flying through the park and perching in the treetops—it’s an amazing sight (and sound) to experience!
There is a public restroom, but unfortunately, it’s not the cleanest, so I’d avoid using it if possible. On the plus side, the amphitheater is a great addition to the park, and you can often catch small events there, especially on Sundays.
Another highlight is the lively farmers market held on the street parallel to the park. It’s a fantastic event that draws in a great crowd and adds to the vibrant atmosphere of the area.
Overall, Memorial Park is a gem in downtown Chula Vista—a great place to relax, bring your dog, and enjoy the community events. With a few small improvements, like more seating and cleaner restrooms, it could be even better!
