2 /5 Douglas Poston: Lost its luster. Surprised that it has even a 3.9 average.
We used to visit this restaurant and enjoyed it frequently, but don’t think we will anymore. It used to be beautiful, food was very flavorful, and the service was outstanding. A number of our friends warned us that it’s not the same, and sadly they are right.
We ate with three other couples and for food they had the Duane’s burrito, hanger steak, carne asada enchiladas, and we split a taco salad with chicken prepared in a somewhat burned flour tortilla bowl. The burrito didn’t have much meat, the enchiladas were described as “ok”, steak was “decent but overpriced”, and the salad was just not good. The chicken was overcooked, and there just wasn’t that much substance to it. Sounded really good from the menu description but didn’t live up to expectations. All the dressing sat on the bottom of the shell, saturated that and the lettuce didn’t have the flavor-made me wonder if they poured that on first then added everything else. For drinks the table had a couple old fashioned, classic margarita, two Modelo, and a grande margarita. The last one I question the size, it didn’t look like 24 ounces. Drinks were average but small according to the comments our group had.
The prices are similar to those people have come to shun in Las Vegas, see menu photos for details. They have wildly overpriced items for what you get.
Service was overall fine, just nothing above average. For a party of six or more they automatically add 20% whether earned or not. And they won’t split a check or give separate checks, we were a group of eight & wanted to do four & four. At the end while we calculated the split the waitress came around a couple times asking if we were ready, I finally told her she’d have to wait since she wouldn’t just give us two checks. It’s that kind of thing that makes this place less than it was.
Overall we would NOT recommend coming here. Sure the building is nice but you can walk around it for free and not end up with a $150 tab (our share) for two taco salads, two beers and a “ grande” margarita.
