5 /5 JoAnn SkyWatcher: I joined The Ukiah Coop in the early 70s. Yes, Ukiah Natural Foods is still cooperatively owned. I am member number 48. I remember when it was next to the railroad tracks and it was called The Homestead Exchange. We could order fruit trees, and get staples, like brown rice at a cheaper price.
When I visit Ukiah, I like to drop in to the "Coop" and see what is new or whom I might run in to. It is a great place to run into old friends if you become a regular.
I love that you can buy things in bulk, and bring your own container (and keep plastic out of landfills). They have bulk honey, oils, nuts, seeds, beans, herbs and spices, and even sell shampoo, and essential oils in bulk. They have beautiful displays of organic fruit and vegetables. You can buy prepared foods and eat inside their new dining area. Or get a really great coffee drink or smoothie.
If you dont live in the area, you might want to make a plan to drop by and see what you might find.
