3 /5 Saye Iye: I came to Tony during a very painful chapter in my life. I had been physically injured by a CHP officer executing a warrant that was supposed to only gather information about where I lived, what car I drove, and who I was with. Instead, I ended up with a broken arm and a charge of obstruction. I had already taken a plea under the guidance of a public defender before I found Tony, and I was looking for some kind of justice or accountability.
Tony took time to listen to my story and did make efforts to explore legal options, including filing a government claim out of his own pocket. Unfortunately, because I had already entered a plea, our options were extremely limited. What I really wanted was access to the body cam footage from the officers involved, which I hoped would bring clarity and truth to what had happened. That never materialized, and I was left feeling like I still didn’t have closure.
Communication could have been clearer, and at the time, I felt a bit lost in the process. I think I had hoped for more guidance, especially around what might still be possible given the circumstances. That said, I now recognize that Tony genuinely wanted to help and that he takes on tough cases that many lawyers wouldn’t even consider.
This wasn’t the outcome I’d hoped for, but I don’t question his intentions. I respect the work he does and the people he fights for, even if my situation didn’t have a path forward.
