1 /5 Angela Whitney: I had high hopes for this gym because they have a large facility with many features such as an indoor and outdoor pool, an outdoor track, and a ton of cardio and weightlifting machines. Also, I had been a member here in the past when it was still Sierra Sport and Raquet and it was wonderful. So I joined quickly and eagerly. But here is a list of things I encountered on my first visit that filled me with regret:
Dead cockroach and dirt in the locker
Layers of caked on dirt on the tile leading to the showers
Empty and dirty hot tub in the womens locker room
Trash in the cup holders of many of the cardio machines
Back patio that I was excited to enjoy post workout was covered in dirt, chairs strewn about, tables and chairs too dusty to use
Outdoor pool looked like a scene from the walking dead, drained with puddles of dirty standing water and debris, one side blocked off by caution tape
Interior and exterior in general state of disrepair
The story is that the company that runs these Fit Republic Gym rents the facility from the Gym owner who is responsible for maintenance and repairs. So they dont really care, and it seems the owner is happy to collect rent and not care either. For me, getting fit is about taking care of and loving myself. Its hard to care for yourself in a space that no one cares for, and even harder to turn over your hard earned cash to a company that doesnt plan on holding up their side of the bargain. For others out there that are struggling to find the time in the day for your health and self-care, you are worth more than this place.
