1 /5 Olga Hvastovich: I was shopping at Bloomingdale’s looking for a dress for a Christmas party, and the experience was extremely disappointing.
The selection of evening dresses for young women was very poor. After walking through almost the entire second floor, I managed to find only two dresses that were even remotely acceptable. During all that time, not a single sales associate approached me or offered any assistance.
When I finally went to the fitting room, while I was inside and undressed, a sales associate suddenly walked in, apparently assuming no one was there. The door is glass, the lighting inside is bright, and it was very obvious the fitting room was occupied. This was extremely uncomfortable and unprofessional.
After trying on the dresses, I went to the register, which was unattended. I placed the items there and went to look for a cashier. Nearby, two sales associates were busy removing an item from a mannequin for another customer. We all walked back to the register together. One of them - the same associate who had walked into my fitting room - saw my items and loudly exclaimed “OMG,” then proceeded to help another customer instead of me.
The second associate suggested taking me to a different register “to be faster.” We ended up walking around the store looking for an available register, which only wasted more time.
She asked for my name and then said, “Are you from Russia or Ukraine?” It was highly inappropriate and unprofessional to combine two countries currently at war into one question.
Overall, the staff was unprofessional, the store appeared understaffed, and the selection of women’s clothing - especially evening wear - was very disappointing. For a store located in an area with many high-income customers, this level of service and merchandise quality is unacceptable.
