St Canice Catholic Church - Nevada City (CA)

3 /5 Joshua Baldwin: This church has very exquisite and very beautiful architecture that is not only a historic treasure but also truly lifts the heart and soul toward God. However, during my visit there with a friend a year or two ago, my friend shared with me that few if any of the parishioners had expressed any interest in getting to know or befriending her and her husband during their time there. While parish architecture is important and a beautiful church truly does life the heart and soul to God, I gathered that the parishioners there had lost sight of the importance of community and had formed unhealthy cliques and fail to welcome visitors and new parishioners. That is why I am leaving a three-star rating, which is the lowest that I will ever rate a Catholic church. If you are reading this and you are a St. Canice parishioner, please commit to being more welcoming in the future. Thanks!

5 /5 Adrienne Lincoln: Quant church and beautiful building. Have been attending this church for years, only down fall was when my husband and I went thru several surgeries not one member reached out to us to see why we weren’t attending. Was very disappointed, had two other people in other churches reach out to help us. I feel church is about not only worship but being a good Christian and helping your neighbors. Making everyone feel welcome.

3 /5 Annette Krulisky: Yes, St. Canice is a beautiful, quaint, Victorian era church with breathtaking stained glass and high wood covered​ ceiling. It is a small church and the people may be friendly, but when I attended Mass there for three straight months, not a soul even said hello. One time I thought someone was making contact so I smiled at him only to realize he wanted his hat in the pew I was sitting in. However, when I wish to get away and disappear and be left alone Saint Canice is perfect.

5 /5 Rachel Hanses: What a beautiful church! We were in town visiting my dad and I took the kids to Mass. we were welcomed warmly by the ushers, and they asked us to carry the gifts up! We’d never done this at any parish but our own, but they were so kind. The priest was warm, smiling, and gave a lovely homily. He high fived my son on the way out. They asked us to come back every week. We felt so warmly received by this parish. Go in with a big smile and I promise they’ll be happy to have you.
