Head Designs - Oakland LM L: For the last 12 years, I have spent so much money trying to find the right stylist to cut my curly hair. Every place claimed to have the curly hair expertise, but I usually felt the cut was just so-so. That is the complete opposite of my experience at Head Designs. Sheila took the time to listen to my wants and looked over all the reference photos I brought. I went from chin length wimpy curls that loved to frizz at the hint of rain to the CUTEST pixie shag. I was never blessed with thick hair. To my dismay, part of my aging process has been thinning hair that is coarser and more fragile. An experienced stylist understands the different hair textures between younger and older clients because as people age, their hair naturally changes in texture, density, and condition, requiring different styling techniques and product choices to achieve the best results. Sheila understood my concerns and cut my hair in such a way that the thinner areas are no longer noticeable. Now all I need to do is wash it 1-2x/week and use a styling gel. On the do nothing days, I wet down any areas that are flattened or have cowlicks, fluff up with my hands and Im done. I was Sheilas lone customer that afternoon so she was able to take care of me with zero distractions. She has a calm demeanor and a gentle touch. What I appreciate the most is how Sheila really paid attention and listened to me. There is street parking and a lot behind the shop. And after leaving with such a good haircut, I treated myself to a pastry from the bakery next door. Looking forward to my next cut. Thank you, Sheila!!
The Walkup Salon and Gallery - Oakland Sara Star: I found Amy by noticing how exquisite my friends hair cut and styling looked. That was almost a decade ago and Im still a fan of Amy-- her artistry, her work, dedication, wholesouled intention, and kindness. She is an artist through and through. As a bonus, she really understands how to make your natural texture come to its full potential. My wavy hair consistently looks awesome year-round thanks to Amy! Weve done long hair, long bobs aka the lob, color and cuts. I love how she styles my hair after the cuts, she understands my hair personality. I commute from SF for my hairapy with Amy! Vee made sure I was comfortable and matched my energy, gave me great advice on how to achieve the shorter style I wanted, and was very meticulous in cutting and styling my hair. I could tell that she makes every effort to make sure her clients walk away just as happy with the end result.

Katie’s been rocking this business for 15 years, and it shows in every detail. She’s high-energy, a fantastic listener, and her instincts for color, cut, and style are unmatched.
Lucky we snagged an appointment before the holidays because her books fill up fast—she’s THAT good! She absolutely nailed the lift and vibrant pop that Miya wanted for her thick Asian hair, which is no easy feat. The customer service? Impeccable. The vibe? Upbeat, positive, and hella good time, with the best playlist.

Salon One - Alameda Nadya Stoyanova: I cant recommend Salon One enough! I had been searching for a new salon for more than a year until I found Salon One and they certainly earned my loyalty. I have been seeing Tina for a couple of years now and shes been able to turn my very dark, dull, and brittle hair into this gorgeous shade of ashy blond, while restoring the health of my hair. She is also extremely knowledgeable and will recommend you strategies to best take care of your hair long term. If you are looking for a new stylist in the Bay Area at a very reasonable price, Salon One is the place to go!
Fig & Clover - Oakland Danielle Fischer: Lauren is amazing. I have wavy curly hair, and its been tricky to find some one who knows how to cut it. I had some pretty specific requests, and she delivered on all fronts. She started our appointment with a consultation, asking me about my preferences and really seeking to understand what I wanted in terms of shape and day-to-day. This is the first time in many years that Ive loved my hair cut -- and fwiw Ive gone to upscale salons (and random salons) throughout SF, SoCal, and DC. Im planning to just go to Lauren from now on. She was also super nice and friendly. The salon is sooo cute, and the neighborhood is great too. Highly recommend
