3 /5 Fburg Foodie: We heard really good things about La Gare and also read some very positive reviews, so we made reservations here for dinner. Our server was friendly and helpful, but the food was mediocre… definitely far from that “French” style, not even a Country French style. The menu was loaded with many options for dinner and appetizers. We started with a shrimp appetizer (Prawns sautéed Provençale) which was described as sautéed, but when it came to the table, it was fried shrimp with a sauce. I mentioned to the server that I wasn’t aware it was fried and he said it was pan sautéed? Not sure how that means fried – but oh well.
I got their creamy mushroom soup to start and it was a watery, nasty soup with flavors I couldn’t guess. My wife got their tomato soup and that was awesome. Their butter lettuce salad to start was also very fresh and very good. My entrée was Poulet Marco Polo and the sauce in it was tasty, though more creamy than providing depth of flavor. The chicken was dry and a basic chicken breast tossed in a sauce. The side veggies were actually more flavorful than the chicken.
Overall – It was decent, but far from what we expect from a French restaurant with such great reviews.
