Equinox Sports Club San Francisco - San Francisco
Christina Paters: Despite an active promotion allowing members to bring a guest, my guest—who already had a valid guest pass—was denied entry. Instead of verifying his status in the system, the manager simply stated he couldn’t go in and made no effort to check or resolve the issue. As a result, my guest had to use my personal membership pass just to be admitted, which is unacceptable. This incident reflects a broader issue: the management at this location demonstrates no level of professionalism or accountability. Their unwillingness to assist and dismissive attitude toward member concerns—particularly from Chris Karl—has been consistent and deeply disappointing. Additionally, the fact that this facility does not offer basic working amenities such as Wi-Fi, despite being positioned as a premium fitness club, further underscores the lack of attention to member experience. Members should not have to push to receive the service and respect they are promised.
Sunset Gym - San Francisco
Ad Ba: It gets the job done. I do basic aerobic exercises (i.e., jogging and cycling) and lifting. pros: reasonable price, no startup fees, has everything you probably need as a casual (non-professional) gym-goer, they cram a lot into their small space cons: Its a little cramped, as others have stated; doesnt seem to really have a culture of cleanliness, many people do not clean their machines after use; heavily male-dominated, im usually the only woman or only one of 2-3 women among 20+ men, which is the worst women-to-men ratio Ive ever personally experienced; some of the machines are a little old, particularly the spin bikes upstairs
FITNESS SF - Embarcadero - San Francisco
Patrick Reyes: Clean gym, very nice staff, with a strange layout, but everything you could need. Crystal (manager) goes above and beyond to make guests feel heard and address their issues and great trainers, such as Matt, put time and personalized care into workouts instead of just counting reps. Keep it up Embarcadero crew, you’re appreciated.
24 Hour Fitness - San Francisco
24 Hour Fitness
Brett Anthon: The Potrero 24 hour fitness facility in San Francisco is the dirtiest and most disorganized gym I have ever seen. The equipment is regularly broken, dumbbells are always missing, trash is all over the floors, and the bathrooms are disgusting and smell like old urine. Its been in the same condition for years. The owners and manager dont seem to care.
Live Fit Gym • Polk Street - San Francisco
Miranda Matos: Been a member for 3-4? Years now, haven’t second guessed my membership here since I signed up. Live fit offers all you could want or need, and at affordable rates without the overcrowding issues. Mahogany, the gym manager and all the staff here are so friendly and helpful, they make every visit a great one. I am so excited to start working with trainer Bristy, who gave me the work out of my life just during our fitness assessment. Only better things to come at live fit for me :)
Live Fit Gym • Hayes Valley - San Francisco
Bobby G: I moved from SF to LA and had to give this gym up and I miss it! Amazing facilities, super clean and modern - its small but crowd is minimal except for 6-7PM weekdays. What makes this place shine is the amazing and extremely helpful and personable staff! Really makes it feel like a community. Big shoutout to Andrew, Ryan, and Dan (who signed me up when I moved to SF many years ago) - you guys are the best and make the gym what it is.
Live Fit Gym - Mission - San Francisco
Michelle Oh: The bench press here is made for only very tall people. This is crazy because I think the average height in sf is like 5’5. Luckily this isn’t a problem for me because I’m 6’3 (I’m also really good looking). Still I think they should look into getting a bench press that is more suitable to the local population

joseph crowley: I had such a great experience at this gym! The atmosphere was super welcoming from the moment I walked in. I got the chance to meet the General Manager, and they were incredibly kind and made me feel comfortable right away. It’s rare to walk into a gym and feel that genuinely cared for. The staff was friendly, the equipment was clean and well-maintained, and the overall vibe made me actually want to come back. Highly recommend checking this place out!
MuscleBeachSF Gym San Francisco fka FitClubSF - San Francisco
Henry Lyford: Great neighborhood gym. New equipment and friendly staff. Price is a little steep but having no enrollment fee (join and cancel whenever) and not being crowded makes it worth it.
Locals Fitness - San Francisco
Eric Armstrong: I love this gym. I spent the summer in San Francisco for a summer job and joined on the flexible month-to-month plan. The gym is brand new, has excellent and well-maintained equipment, and is never too crowded. The clientele are all good and respectful people. All the gym staff, especially the owner, Daniel, are really great and make an effort to greet you by name. The gym has solid hours too (closing at 11pm on most days) which is great if you work out late at night like I often do. Overall would highly recommend this gym if you live nearby!
