1 /5 Vincent Salgado: I went through a divorce in 2008. My ex had told me, many times during our relationship, how she out witted her first husband. She took him for everything and got sole custody of their children. Me knowing this and new to the legal side of family law, I was given reference to Ryan Childers law office. Though ex-wife and I agreed on property and other monetary instruments, our only disagreement was of who should gain control of my son. I believed everything to do with my son’s best interest should have been split fairly. Instead, Ryan and his staff insisted on taking the minimum because that is what they could guarantee me to get. Childers wanted me to later make a modification to get a little bit more visitation time. He explained that this was based on the fact that I was a male and it is [supposedly] hard to get much from the family court systems in men’s favor. Even though I did not think this was the right choice, I foolishly took the advice of Childers. Through the process, I rarely heard from Ryan Childers office or his paralegal (Denise). I would get an occasional voice message letting me know things were wrapping up. The few things I insisted him to argue in court was not followed though and somehow forgotten. These included winter/summer breaks, certain holidays or vacations etcetera. What upset me the most is that I explained that I wanted to be involved with everything and wanted to be kept informed. When the divorce case was finally heard in court, I wasnt even made aware of the date. Instead I was given a phone call to show up at their office to sign the paperwork that would conclude the divorce. I foolishly never spoke up these concerns, which was partially because I feared being charged their time. The process from start to finish took One year and 6 days. It cost me $6,000 (rounded up), I got close to nothing of what I asked for and I was left feeling taken for! Every subsequent attorney that I have met with advised me how I overpaid for what I received. The only person I would recommend Ryan and his staff to is whoever I would go up against.
