Christine Pillsbury I drive over 500 miles to get Sanford to do my hair. He is wonderful!

Santiago Kato Ballesteros Lora Racist/homophobic establishment. I’ve been here about 5 times to browse since I’ve moved here years and years ago. I frequently dye my hair and buy from Sally’s but figured I’d give this a go. Now listen, it was not brought to my attention this store is ONLY for licensed professionals until my very recent visit. I did further research to confirm. What I did not appreciate is I have been in this store several times to browse without anyone bothering me or notifying me about this rule. Last visit I did find the lady (assuming the manager) a bit odd, she was not in the store and my fiancé and I went towards the evening. She freaked out and said she was closed but why did she not lock the door while she was in the back room? That’s a lack of safety and security on her part but she reassured us that we can stop by next time when they’re open. Cool. I’ve finally had some cash and been needing to buy hair dye so I come in (as a brown queer man). She immediately said “hello” to us and we continued our browsing while another (white) individual was there. We were browsing for about 10-15 minutes until she threatened to kick us out with no reasoning so of course I decided to question the rationale. She said we have to be card members (again not specifying what that means so we assumed it was to sign up for some rewards plan) so I inquired to sign up. She said she refuses to sign me up and I asked why. She would not give a reason but after pressing several times for an answer she said we had to be licensed professionals. Again, was never made aware of this policy and I completely respect it but why was this brought to my attention the 5th visit mid browsing? From the outside without this prior knowledge is comes across as targeted aggression, she did not question the other white browser individual who decided to leave after she was done browsing. I accused her of racial harassment and she laughed at my face and decided to immediately call the cops to a BROWN person putting my life in danger because she didn’t specify the rules. I’m not complaining about not being able to buy, what I did not appreciate is why is this not posted clearly on the doors, why has she in the past not tell us about this rule, why did she threaten to kick me out and accuse me of not being a licensed professional when she had no clue if I was or not. Why did she invite us back the last visit prior to my recent? Why did she not mention this policy right as customers enter? (Mind you it was just my fiancé and the other browser at this store she had time to explain this policy at the beginning) why did she wait 15 minutes and accused me and kicked me out without asking for verification? It’s clear this manager has some racist behaviors as I called her out for it she didn’t even “threaten” she immediately started calling the cops. Again, I UNDERSTAND (now) this is for licensed professionals but she did not kick any browsers out of any of my visits, only targeted me and not my fiancé who happens to be white. There are professional ways to state policies and a time and a place as well as a proper (and safe) way to kick someone out without warning or calling potentially dangerous policemen who put my life at risk (as they have done to me in the past in other racially motivated incidents) I’m not offended that it’s only licensed professionals I’m upset of how this manager has went about it and the timing and attitude coming from her. Well the one good thing about Humboldt’s high rents is hopefully it affects this business and shuts it down! It’s a bummer because there are more localized products than typical corporations such as Sally’s, I understand it’s for licensed professionals AFTER I did my research but to immediately get accused and not told of this policy til my 5th visit is horrendous behavior. So girl, your time is coming up soon cant wait for the doors to close down and you’re unemployed!

Cherry Willingham Workers there were so sweet and knowledgeable. Whenever Im in, they know all the stylists by name and theres always a laugh to be found. Best customer service. Two thumbs up!

Mercedes Hernandez Staff is nice and very helpful

Nyeema Lucky-Simpson Had the BEST experience there. Had a bunch of dead hair from perming at a young age and was able to get my hair cut by her and it has been growing healthy ever since. Very grateful for that.

Carrie Norris Has a great selection of extensions and other ethnic products. Plus she orders anything you need

Binta Wright Good black hair care store. Bought marley style kinky hair and hair jewelry but there was also an assortment of hair care products that Ill probably go back and look through more thoroughly on a different day. Prices are about the same as anywhere else. Support your local (black) businesses!

Angela Blackthorne Biggs Gretchen Naughton is the best stylist in Humboldt. Cuts look wonderful and grow out beautifully. Her expert balayage coloring reflects an artists eye and leads to lots of compliments on my hair. I would keep her a secret but Im so grateful I felt I really needed to share her talents. Thank you, Gretchen!

Sabrina Verser Oh my god! I love my hair. Kassidy got the color I wanted spot on. She is absolutely amazing and such a talented stylist. I will definitely be returning. Kassidy is now my new hair stylist.

Claire Till Kassidy gave me a great haircut! Im always nervous to discuss what kind of haircut I want because I dont know the words for things relating to hair, but I had a picture, and she made it happen. She even looked at me in the mirror after she was nearly done cutting it, and suggested maybe a tad shorter. She asked what I thought, and I agreed, and she did it. I really appreciated that she brought her artistic eye to my haircut!! Thank you, Kassidy! Ill be back :)

Lindsey Hurn I love this place! I have super thin/fine hair and I am extremely picky about who touches my hair. David is pure MAGIC! I absolutely love coming here because I always leave and my hair feels healthy and volumized. Five Starts.

Sophie Mason I got a haircut from Jayne and I love it! I showed her a photo of what I wanted and she totally cut the style to suit my hair type. And what a great value!! 10/10.

sage Vivian is great! I showed her some photos and explained what I wanted and she gave me a lovely haircut in 20 minutes for $25. Highly recommend!

Anthony Jones Vivian is more than just a hair stylist. She can really do anything you want. And She is a wonderful part of the community. Talking with her during my appointments is a memory Ill never forget.

Roberto Vivian is very warm and friendly. She gets around quite well for a person over 90 years old. I have had her cut my hair on and off over the last 20 years and I have never been disappointed. I take my children here for haircuts and she is good with them. Her rates are very reasonable, I highly recommend this place. She has another guy there cutting hair that doesnt seem to get too much business as Vivian is the main attraction. Hopefully this other guy can get some business too. Last but certainly not least, she works quickly, I am usually amazed at how quickly we get out of there with three haircuts. Enjoy!

Amber Shehan Teri cut and colored my hair perfectly my first time in her shop. She listened and smiled and was very nice with no judgement when I told her what I had put my hair through during quarantine. I showed her pictures of what I was going for and she customized a plan and explained how we could get there from here. She is nice and welcoming. I am so glad to have found her. My hair is modern and fresh and feels so good. Ive received So many compliments too! Thank you Teri!

Maxwell Soeth Consistent hours, consistent cut and still at a low price. Rocky takes his time no matter how busy he is. I only wish i would have found him 7 years ago when I moved here. Best barber in Humboldt and Ive tried many of them!

Jack Walsh Rocky is a great barber and overall great guy. Ive been getting my hair cut here for awhile, but I especially appreciated him allowing me to stop by with my young Bassethound. Thats not to say this is a dog friendly establishment, I dont want to sow doggie chaos at his little shop, but I appreciate him putting up with her for the duration of my cut! If youre like me and appreciate experience and a good personality, I suggest going to Rocky and help him be assured a comfortable future retirement.

T Rocky saw me first thing in the morning, I am pleased he is open so early because I am a busy man. He was pleasant, kind, and I’ve never had someone do such a thorough job. It is no surprise he has been in business for over 50 years. Highly recommend!

Joy Gatel Just moved to Humboldt and met a lady who recommended this salon. She also gave me a couple of names. So I called I told them I was desperate. They put me on a cancelation list and I made an appointment for the following month. About a week later I got a call. I got in, and they were great. Very friendly. Great place. I have to tell you I asked a lot of people for recommendations. They hadnt found a place they liked.

Jody Smith Candace is the newest addition to the wave hair studio and is fantastic. Ive been going to her for years and love her new spot. Its very cute and cozy. I am incredibly picky about my hair. I have thick, wavy, and curly hair that requires a little expertise to cut and style without making it look like a frizzy birds nest. I have been to many places around town; some have given me a lopsided haircut, crazy unruly layers, or just a flat-out ugly haircut. Candace consistently delivers; I have always been happy with the haircuts Ive received from her. I am flooded with compliments about my hair daily; its Candaces magic. 10/10 recommend.

Leah M Candace styled my hair PERFECTLY for my wedding day. It was beautiful and exactly what I wanted! She cuts perfect bangs too :D

HUMBLE IN HUMBOLDT This place is so nice and i get great service every time. Suzanne listens to me about what id like and puts her own creative spin to it. She is amazing at head massages! I feel super pampered each time I go in. Even though I cant afford to come in every time... Suzanne really listens to that and tunes my hair color to let it grow out naturally. If I could give 6 stars I would. Thank you for the work you do for me. I feel so beautiful!

Julianna Mike was an absolute delight to chat with, and gave my boyfriend a sick haircut. The shop was very clean and neat, and I loved that I got to pet his very sweet husky while I waited. He was really thoughtful and made sure my boyfriend was happy with the cut. The vibes were immaculate, and we are 100% coming back.

Michael Sundman Mike is great for kids cuts too. Took my little grems in for a trim and theres Mario Kart on the TV and gumballs for dessert. And if your kids dont behave, its a one chair shop so no need to worry about bothering other customers. Thanks Mike!

Andrew Soriano "5 Stars - Best Haircut in Eureka!" I booked a haircut here just to see if it really deserved all the hype. Usually, I go for the cheapest place around because, hey, how hard can a regular guys haircut be, right? Well, turns out, it makes a huge difference when you find the right barber. Ive seen the worst and now, hands down, the best barber shop in Eureka. This guy nailed it! I asked for a pretty standard cut, but he took it to the next level. Who knew a basic cut could look this good? Not only is the haircut spot on, but hes also a good guy – easy to talk to and professional. Made me feel relaxed. If youre looking for a top-notch cut without the fuss, this is the place.

Sharron Smith I was apprehensive at first to get my first salon haircut but I had a perfect experience. I had my hair cut by Hazel and she did an amazing job. I have very thick, unruly hair and she handled it incredibly well. The staff were friendly and helpful. I definitely recommend them and couldnt be more pleased. 10/10. ✨

Laurel It’s a makeup store & I’m a girl so what’s not to love! There’s something for everyone, they have a HUGE selection of cosmetics, not just the high end expensive brands like MAC, Benefit, IT cosmetics, Urban Decay, ARMANI, Charlotte Tillbury, Etc. they also carry more budget friendly options like Cover Girl, NYX, ColourPop, Etc. Their fragrance dept. is one of the few (maybe the only) place that has a sample bottle out for every perfume/cologne they sell so you can try on your favs to see how/if they change with your body chemistry before you invest upwards of $100 on a bottle of something that doesn’t smell as good on you as it does on your friend who wears it. They also have all the high end brands of hair products; Redken, Dry Bar, Bumble & Bumble, Biolage, etc. & carry the best brands of blow dryers, straighteners & curling irons like Dyson, Chi, Babyliss, & even some more affordable options like Conair, & Hot Tools. Good selection of hair accessories, nail polish, & pretty much anything “beauty” related. Don’t miss the mini’s at the front near the checkouts-an inexpensive way to try out some of the higher end brands you’ve heard of but haven’t tried before committing to the price of the full size version. I’ve found a few products that I now can’t live without by randomly buying a few mini’s that caught my eye while waiting in line. The employees have always been super friendly & very knowledgeable, don’t be shy, just tell them what you’re looking for & what your budget is & they will show you where to look & if you’re shopping for premium brands they will help you color/product match. They even have little drawers full of sponges, q-tips & tissues available around the store because there are so many displays that have testers. Like the old days when even drugstores had testers available so you bought the right shade of foundation the first time, every time & don’t waste money you can’t afford on bottles & bottles of diff foundations by guessing your shade looking through a locked glass case & getting it wrong 9 times out of 10. So, while their prices maybe a few dollars more than going to Walmart, you WILL save time & $$ in the end when you don’t end up either out money on a product you can’t use or out time & gas making an unexpected trip back to do a return. Also, the few items I’ve tried from their Ulta brand, some cosmetics & a few makeup brushes were on par with the quality of the higher end brands but were very affordable so be sure to check & see if they have the product/tool/brush you’re looking for in their brand for less first. Abdul Abdali Ive been getting haircuts at NorCal Barber for a couple of years now. The quality is always great and the consistency is always appreciated. Its also very convenient to be able to book my appointment online and it lets me plan out my haircuts so I dont get in trouble. I have a professional job and a clean cut is always a plus. When I come to NorCal I know that Ill get a quality cut for a good price and be able to depend my barber to be friendly, on time and consistent. Highly recommend!
