1 /5 Elizabeth Macias: Went in to get my roots touched up with Layla. My natural hair had grown out about 3-4 inches (see first image). The color I wanted to match is blonde highlights with a subtle brown-reddish base (hair dye not color lift) as shown in the first picture attached. By the end of the 5 hr process, my hair roots did not matched the rest of my hair. Instead, the highlights and ends were darkened. There was no base color applied to the roots, my natural hair was used as base - see 3 middle pictures below. I asked if I could get a refund, the salon said they would correct the error before moving to a refund. I went back a week later. The stylist, Layla, along with another stylist, Gina, lifted all of the color from my hair - base and highlight. The outcome was a vertically uniform color across my hair, but it was no longer the hair I started with. Instead, I have a stronger red base giving an overall copper effect (see last 3 images). After finishing, they commented something along the lines of, "see, now the roots match the ends". This might be true, but only a part of the request. Total for hair coloring was around $500.

She listened to what I wanted, but what I enjoyed most was she explained the process she was going through as she cut my hair. She did not recommend extra chemical treatments to tame the frizzies. She developed her own technique she calls “dusting.” While my hair was still dry and not yet washed, she twisted sections of my hair and cut off the frizzed hair that poked out. As she did this, I saw my hair smooth out. She took 2.5 hours to bring my hair back to life. She did not try to sell me any product. I asked her and she made recommendations. I woke up this morning and I did not need to brush my hair, it was soft, full and laid beautifully just like yesterday. I definitely trust Gina with my hair and I will be a regular client.

Blondes can sometimes come out yellow or even purple if a person doesn’t know the skill. Joy is an expert at color and extensions and makes sure all her employees are trained with the latest techniques.

Layla set me up with a hair care product routine, a fresh haircut, and she blended in my new clip-in hair extensions I purchased from neighboring "The Hair Shop" so they matched my real hair perfectly. Layla saved the day and Im super grateful!
