5 /5 Louie Smirnoff: Visiting PIER 39 was hands down one of the highlights of my trip to San Francisco. It’s the perfect mix of fun, food, and waterfront beauty, all in one place. Whether you’re into shopping, sightseeing, people-watching, or just soaking in good vibes, this place has it all. The views of the bay are absolutely stunning—especially with Alcatraz in the distance and the Golden Gate Bridge peeking through the fog. But what really made it special for me were the sea lions! Watching them lounge, bark, and play on the docks was such a unique and charming experience. They’re truly the unofficial mascots of the pier. There’s also a wide variety of shops and places to grab a bite. I had some incredible clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl (a must!), and there were plenty of sweet treats and quirky souvenirs to browse. The energy here is so lively, with street performers adding to the fun and families and tourists all enjoying the laid-back atmosphere. PIER 39 is the kind of place where time flies—you think you’ll spend an hour, and suddenly it’s sunset. It’s iconic, welcoming, and just plain fun. I’d go back in a heartbeat.

5 /5 Lawrence Taur: A proper tourist attraction with just the right amount of crowd. I wish I could shop from all the different stores here. Don’t forget to walk till the end to get a view of Alcatraz and on your way back visit the local resident sea lions. Plenty of places to eat and drink with a few restrooms around as well.

2 /5 Brenda Ibarra: This place is okay, Ive been here twice and its just alright. The area in general is kind of dirty and doesnt feel very safe. I guess it makes sense, but not very welcoming for tourists. Theres a couple shops and the view over the water/Alcatraz is great. Whatever you do, just bring a sweater. Even on a sunny day, the wind is fierce. I guess its alright to stop by for someone whos curious, but its definitely not an all day activity. I spent 1.5 hr here and that was enough. Parking is rough, as expected but theres plenty of paid parking available (and garages)

5 /5 Ruth Balloon: This pier has lots to offer. Plenty of restaurants and little stores. It is fun to walk around. They even have a live magic show every evening which is quite entertaining. One of my favorite things was seeing sea lions up close. Super cool to watch .

Tank Hill Park - San Francisco

Lydia Chu: Tank Hill Park is in a beautiful and quiet neighborhood in San Francisco. I went there expecting a regular park with some grassy areas for my dog to run around, but it turned out to be more like a short hike. At first, I was surprised, but I didn’t mind because the path was very easy to walk, even in regular sneakers. When I reached the top, I was treated to a nice view of the city. It was pretty windy up there, so if you go, I’d recommend bringing a jacket. I also noticed there were a few benches and rocks where you could sit and enjoy the view for a while. It’s a peaceful spot, and the views make it worth the visit!

Ripleys Believe It or Not! - San Francisco

Kristin Mazziotta: We love the Ripley’s museums! This one did not disappoint! We all enjoyed it and the mirror maze at the end was so much fun! All exhibits were interesting and the facility was very clean! The staff were extra accommodating with the stroller as well. We would definitely visit here again!

Morgan Steel: I enjoyed the hiking trails that gave an upfront view of the Golden Gate Bridge. And an added bonus, the Fort Point was open to wander around at my leisure! I took many great photos, but the top tier was very windy!

Alcatraz Island -

Desi Pilla: The audio tour is really well done. You get a feel for the prison and the personalities involved. I would plan to spend 1.5-2 hours here is you want to do the audio tour and walk around the island. It’s not very big. Like the rest of SF, it’s one big hill that you will have to hike up, but there was a tram to help out those who can’t make the climb. Be mindful of the return ferries, mine departed earlier than the stated time slot and so I had to wait for the next one.

Castro Elizabeth “Liz”: Theres something for everyone but definitely appear that you can bring the family for a fun-filled day. I enjoyed the fact that I was there on a budget and was still able to purchase and acceptable amount of souvenirs take back home with me for my loved ones. A variety of different food places, the best of sit down restaurants and fast food eateries . Theres a Farmers Market, arcade for little ones, rides for little ones, a plethora of gift shops ranging from toys to souvenirs, high tech gadgets, and jewelry shops. I didnt get to go to the aquarium but for the next visit I definitely have some plans in mind. And last but not least I enjoyed, and the children enjoyed watching sea lions sunning themselves viewable from the pier. FYI directly across the street, very conveniently located, was a parking garage.

San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park Visitor Center - San Francisco

Dans Inferno: The visitor center is across the street from the pier where the historical ships are docked. As of Spring 2025, that area is under renovation, but the visitor center is fully open. The displays and ship models are well done and informative. Anyone unfamiliar with the role San Francisco played in Western economic development and World War 2 would find this a fascinating place to visit. The visitor center participates in the junior ranger program and has NPS rangers on site. Parking can be a bit of a challenge since it is in the middle of the San Francisco pier tourist area.

Flyer Thrill Zone & 7D Experience - San Francisco

Adrian R Logan: We visited Flyer Thrill Zone 7D Experience in San Francisco on a Wednesday evening. No line when we got there, but even after grabbing our tickets, we had to wait a bit since it wasn’t very busy. The experience itself was okay, but the blasters on the chairs were a little off the aiming didn’t line up great, so if youre trying to get a high score like I was (yep, I compete with my kids), make sure to test your aim on the starting target screen. Watch the X while you shoot so you know where your shots are landing. The flying part was the best smooth, peaceful, and the Bay Area visuals were really nice. It’s definitely something I’d recommend trying at least once if you haven’t done it before. We ended up doing a bundle deal so we could try a couple of experiences. Overall, it was a pretty good activity to add to the day, especially for families or couples just looking to do something fun and a little different.

Shirish Shenolikar: Union Square is one of those spots in San Francisco that feels like the citys heartbeat—bustling with tourists, shoppers, and street performers. Its got big-name stores, quirky boutiques, and plenty of places to grab a coffee and just soak in the vibe. If youre into people-watching, this is prime real estate! While the area has some pricey spots, there are also plenty of budget-friendly restaurants and hotels nearby if you look beyond the main square. Its super convenient for exploring the city, with Chinatown, the Financial District, and theaters all within walking distance. A heads-up: daytime exploration might be the best bet. But overall, it’s got that lively, energetic feel that makes San Francisco special.
