06-2025 Carrillo Adobe in Hight rate 10 location for tourist in Santa Rosa, CA, USA (part 2)Pepperwood Preserve - Santa Rosa Sandy M: Came here on for a class to learn about mushrooms. It’s a gorgeous facility with breathtaking views. We hunted for mushrooms and collected samples for the center to use as data for their research. That day we found 50+ different species, ranging from chanterelles, lion’s mane, oyster mushrooms and so forth. Be aware, this is a non-profit nature preserve and you need to check the schedule for events open to the public - you aren’t able to just show up anytime.
Luther Burbank Home & Gardens - Santa Rosa briantravelman: Gardens were nice, but nothing worth making a special trip for. The house was unimpressive. Maybe if wed gone inside and taken a tour, wed feel different.
We have something similar in our own town, thats maybe even nicer, so it was pretty underwealming.
Snoopys Home Ice - Santa Rosa Roberta Peek: I was in the area visiting the museum and saw the Peanuts characters continue across the street so checked it out. The shrub outside shaped like Snoopy. Charlie Brown statue dressed in hockey garb. Further down near the gift shop is a Woodstock dressed as a referee and another Snoopy. As well as a star in the sidewalk for Charles Shultz. Inside the ice arena there is a cafe that is super cute with Peanuts decor from stained glass, to drawings to cartoons that line the walls. Also, the table frequented by Charles Shultz is memorialized there. From the cafe you can look on to the ice and view all the activities going on there. Its a neat place.
Fremont Park - Santa Rosa Larry Stallings: I marched in a Pride Parade today. Great experience with lots of folks and music creating joy
Laguna de Santa Rosa Foundation - Santa Rosa Tricia Cerone: A bountiful source of information on water conservation, native plants, and native/seasonal wildlife. The venue hosts live shows, art galleries, and theres a small retail store.
Jack London State Historic Park - Glen Ellen Anna Rushanian: Jack London State Park is an incredible place where history comes alive amidst nature. Although the writer’s house was destroyed by fire, the ruins still hold a unique atmosphere. Walking through this park is truly inspiring, offering a chance to connect with the legacy of a great author. The silence, historic structures, and beautiful surroundings create an indescribable sense of peace and connection to the past. Highly recommended for a visit
California Indian Museum & Cultural Center - Santa Rosa Fiona C Potter: Really cool collection of baskets, my favorite part though was the text in the exhibition! Often really through provoking. And I walked away wanting to try to make acorn bread :) recommend calling or writing ahead of time as you do need to let them know in advance if you’re coming by.
Petaluma Adobe State Historic Park - Petaluma D P: Great place to visit. No dogs allowed
Pay $3 per person to visit. Free parking. With the ticket you can visit the mission and the Vallejo house on the same day only. Worth the drive. Restrooms available. No food or drinks allowed. Majestic views
Shollenberger Park - Petaluma whelkpeopleofdoom: Lovely flat walking trail that can be, I believe, a little over two miles depending on which paths you take. The biggest loop is, I would say, maybe 2/5 pavement and 3/5 gravel. Feel free to explore, because you can see the entrance from almost anywhere in the park! Youll always find your way back, and the thoughtful placement of many benches means you can stop for a breather any time, and take in the view. Lots of wonderful birdies living their best lives. Theyre not terrified of humans, but they keep their distance, as should you. Lots of people walking their dogs (most are well-behaved and leashed in my experience), plus a decent amount of runners and some cyclists. The trail is wide, so as long as you are staying on the right side as traffic would dictate, you likely wont need to make room.
Finally, there is a restroom and human/dog water fountain at the entrance. The parking lot is a bit small, but Ive always been able to find a spot (helps that my car is 4WD and can park in dirt a and lumpy areas.
My only complaint about this trail is that the rocks in the gravel are BIG and often poke at the soles of my feet through my shoes, but honestly I probably need to get better shoes anyway. I endure it to traverse this lovely park.
