I recently made the drive from Las Vegas to Santa Monica, and let me tell you, it was so worth it! After getting the perfect color I wanted 90 days ago, I knew I had to return for a refresh—and I’m glad I did. The drive may seem long, but when you’re greeted with such high-quality service, chill vibe- it’s all worth it. From the luxurious shampoo and conditioner to the heavenly scalp massage, every moment felt indulgent. The vibrant refresh of my original color? Flawless! If you’re looking for the best in color and care, the trip to Koko at Aube is a no-brainer.
JULY 19- In late May, I decided to transform my blonde balayage into a rich wine red. Multiple stylists in Las Vegas, informed me that to achieve my desired shade, they first needed to apply an auburn color to neutralize the blonde and assess if the final color was achievable. Despite the uncertainty, I took the plunge with one of those stylist and was left with a dark auburn color with peaks of blonde that didnt take.
Eight weeks later, I found myself in Santa Monica, CA, and stumbled upon Aube Salon. On a whim, I approached a stylist named Koko for a last-minute attempt to achieve my dream color. I showed her my inspo photo, and without hesitation or excuses, she assured me she could make it happen. Koko even promised to help recondition my hair.
Skeptical, I waited for the reveal. But when I put my glasses back on and saw the stunning result, I was blown away. My hair looked perfect, almost like I was wearing a flawless wig. The salon, a Japanese style hair establishment, clearly delivered exceptional quality.
I had my daughter with me and she got long layers put in her hair, a refreshing and thorough shampoo, followed by a blow dry.
Im now a devoted fan and plan to return in three months for a touch-up, regardless of the four-hour drive or hour-long flight. Its worth every mile for such beautiful results.
Fringe Hair Salon - Santa Monica Erin Lewis: Fringe is such a cute salon, very bright and airy. Elizabeth cut my hair and did a phenomenal job, bringing my vision to life. Everyone was warm and friendly, and it was just a lovely experience. Will definitely go back!
Panache CK Hair Salon - Santa Monica Josh Dembo: If you are looking for a great men’s haircut, look no further. I first went to Marjan when I was 6 years old, and since then no one else has cut my hair. She is a local legend, so sweet, and is an artist with the scissors. Always a pleasure.
Green room hair studio - Santa Monica Melanie Burns: So grateful to have found Terri through a friend. She is the best blonder ever and always gives me the best cuts. Everyone I’ve referred to her also love her! Her studio is cool with fun people and fun vibes while also professional! Highly recommend her!
Salt & Honey Salon - Santa Monica Maria: Erinn is amazing! Highly recommend going to her for the best styling. She’s been my longtime stylist and I’m so excited to be her customer at her own salon. She gets my curly wavy hair and is a coloring savant — she brought me back to my original hair color and my own family couldn’t tell the difference. She’s seen me through long haircuts, shorter bobs and everything in between. Erinn is also the loveliest person to chat with and gets exactly what you mean when all you have is a half baked image in your head. 10/10
Eco Heads Salon - Santa Monica Madi: My first time getting a haircut at Eco Heads and it was a wonderful experience! I love Tina with all my heart and she did a beautiful job with my hair. She also did my boyfriend’s hair, and he’s never looked more handsome. Absolutely amazing haircut for the both of us. We love you Tina!
AHHA HAIR - Santa Monica Lena T: Annika is the first person in the states that Ive ever trusted with my natural (3b/c) hair, and the first person anywhere to ever color it, other than myself. And I couldnt be happier with my results! I never write long reviews, but this feels warranted.
Backstory: Ive been highlighting my own hair sporadically since 2020. Recently, though, I got a bit too careless with my technique, which resulted in some serious banding and brassiness. Unfortunately, I dont have any "before" pictures because I couldnt bear to look at it, let alone capture it on camera. But to visualize, the banding was so bad that in some parts it almost looked like leopard print. Needless to say, it was absolutely nowhere near the slightly chunky balayage I had in mind. & I knew I needed professional help.
Back to the review: Annika was very knowledgable during our consultation, and I felt so safe putting the fate of my hair in her hands. She explained everything we would do with full honesty, telling me what styles would and wouldnt work for my hair.
After the actual appointment, I can tell you one thing for certain, she KNOWS what shes doing. My tragic DIY "highlights" are now completely unrecognizable, and I finally feel confident wearing my hair out without needing to style it just to hide the banding. Plus, my hair still feels healthy and strong.
Shortly after my appointment, I went out to run errands and ended up garnering compliments on my hair color at almost every place I stopped — which, was a fun bonus to the overall great experience I had that day& also a testament to the quality of Annikas work.
I do know that shes incredibly skilled with a variety of hair textures, but I especially want to highlight this for my fellow curly hair folks. If ur looking for a stylist in the Santa Monica/West Los Angeles area who truly understands curly hair (which genuinely feels like finding a needle in a haystack) — congratulations, you’ve just found one in Annika. Allen Pacheco Salon - Santa Monica Jujuba Verde: Today I had my hair done for the first time with the hairdresser Kenna, and she is a good listener of the details I requested. As a result, she did an excellent job; she did highlights, root, hair cut, and blow dryer. I chose the first hour of Monday, which I find convenient, instead of Friday, when the salon is full. I will definitely return to keep my hair this way.
Blade & Brush, Inc - Santa Monica D B: I have been going to Ana since 2014. She is patient and listens to what you want. She is reliable. She is the best colorist Ive been to. She is good with curly or straight hair. She does not do the brazilian treatment. If you need a great color and cut she is the one to call. No problems ever.
Ă‚me Salon - Santa Monica Joshua Townshend: Sara is - AMAZING. Anything she does - touches - puts her awareness on - turns to pure gold. She has such impeccable intent - you can FEEL it when you walk into her space just off Montana in a lovely part of Santa Monica. While early in my process - I feel that we are on the right track with my hair growth process. A lot of people might have the TED machine - but no one has the heart and the passion and the integrity that Sara has. Looking forward to more progress. More updates to come
