2 /5 One Of Us: Sadly, not a good ambassador for Lebanese cuisine.
I grew up on middle eastern food, so was excited when a friend asked for an introduction. We found this restaurant on Google Maps, the menu looked promising and the reviews were favorable.
We walked in and the restaurant was pretty empty during dinner time. That should have been a warning sign.
But the server was so nice and welcoming that we decided to stay and ordered a selection of items so that my friend could try more things.
And what a disappointment that was...
The hummus was bitter, the kebbeh (thats how the restaurant spells it) was cold inside (probably reheated in a microwave), the pita bread must have come from a plastic bag, the kafta was too dense, the meat shawerma (again, restaurant spelling) tasted like reheated meat in a pan, the rice tasted soft and soggy (like when you reheat rice in the microwave with too much water), and the falafel...I asked my friend not to taste it so not to get the wrong idea about what falafel should taste like. The rest was serviceable at best.
Bottom line - I had to apologize to my friend and buy ice cream at the nearby ice cream shop for dessert, just to make up for the bad experience.
At home, I looked back at the other reviews, and suspect that either the restaurant changed chefs recently or the reviewers are not really familiar with authentic Lebanese cuisine.
I am really sorry that I have to write a negative review but this restaurant should urgently make changes in the kitchen.
