3 /5 Jenny Ramaswamy: We were excited to dine at Bijou within a few days of opening. Its clear they have potential, but have work to do before becoming a destination spot. First, the "soft opening" menu was odd. The table next to us said they loved the Fondant, but when we ordered it, they were out. Our reservation was for 6:30pm so this seemed strange. It was early in the night and it was primarily cheese, so how do you run out? The main options left me wanting. It included beef Wellington, steak frites and halibut (or some similar fish). Why not include a vegetarian option or fowl? We tried the saffron risotto and there was not one sign of saffron nor was it creamy and delicious like a risotto. The simple salad was dressed well and the fries were cooked perfectly, but this is not enough to warrant the prices. We also liked the fried leeks, but that dish wouldnt bring me back. I looked at an SF Chronicle preview and it describes many wonderful dishes, but why were they not on the menu?
